    In NSW

IIRC its no stopping and $200+ and points depending on stopping or parking

although some places seem to tout several hundred for parking in a diasbled
    spot
    without a permit

I don't think North Sydney council has jurisdiction there.
How about $384? That has to be some sort of world record doesn't it?

I got a £150 fine from Islington Coulcil in London (About $368) last
year for "parking in a Pay & Display Car Park while failing to display
a valid parking permit" ...but that's a long story.

In parts of central London it's not uncommon to have to pay £7
($17.20) an hour for a piece of road. If you want to put your car in
a private car park then it's going to cost more.

The old guy who mowed down the biker in Mona Vale - was posted to here -
Manly Times I think the link was. IIRC he got a couple of hundred dollar
fine. There was also the one in Melbourne where she got a slap on the
wrist despite being pissed off her face - but I think it was a bit more
    than $300

Parking in a disabled space without a permit. Seriously, what sort of
disabled person rides a bike, isn't that why they invented cars?
When I saw the ticket I was happy to accept the expected $60-odd fine and
learn a lesson, but $384 dollars is just absurd.
First step will be court (IME judges are relatively lenient on parking
tickets), next will be retribution on North Sydney council property for such
an abuse of power. If I'm forced to hand over that sort of cash I assure you
I will get my money's worth.

  11. There was bike parking designated "disabled only", or disabled parking
    designated "motorcycle only"?

That could almost qualify you for a disability permit, Doug!

Not quite sure to be honest. There is a long line regular bike parks, then a
small section at the end with a sign that has a picture of a motorcycle on
it and a picture of a wheelchair.

Well here's the thing. As much as I love you guys, your support or lack of
it, makes no difference to the $384 hole in my wallet. What counts is
whether I get any value for my dollar.
Now tell me, what alternative reward did you have in mind?

Are you disabled? No? Then boo fucking hoo!
I'll bet you wouldn't have the guts to say that to Pisshead face to face!
Bend over, pay your fine, and keep out of the fucking disabled spaces in
the future. You "expected" to be able to get away with making life more
difficult than it already is for disabled people, and figured it was
worth the risk of $60 if you got caught. Well you _did_ get caught, and
your assumption about the $60 consequences was wrong. Too bad.
Yeah, let us know how you get on with that... Precisely what power did
they abuse by fining you for parking in a disabled spot?

  19. Well, I was considering offering to disable you, I suspect paraplegia
may be the only actual defense you could offer in your alleged court
    appearance...

Speaking as someone who currently has to wheel his sick mother around in a
wheelchair and who is really really sick of pricks who park in disabled
    spots without being entitled to...

big is being more polite than I would be.

I hope that when you take it to court and whine that they add a shit load of
costs to it. Maybe then the lesson will finally sink in...
