Question...

  1. I'm not so sure. Every other poster in this thread seems to have learnt
somewhere that "you don't park illegally in disabled places because that
makes you a jerk", and and they also understand that you get fined if
you get caught. I'll bet most of them, like me, never knew how expensive
the fine was, but all of them knew not to park in disabled spaces.

The education available worked for everybody _except_ Uncle Bully.

That seems to me to indicate the problem does not lie with the current
method of education. If any teacher managed to get the pass/fail rate
shown in this thread they'd be congratulated heartily for doing a
magnificent job. _One_ "fail", probably 50 or 60 "passes". Thats a way
better outcome than most education seems to aim for.

(actually, on reflection, even Uncle Bully knew what "the right thing to
do" was, he'd just decided that being a jerk was OK, his problem is he's
a cheap jerk, he's just uptight that nobody told him up front what the
penalty for the rule he decided to break was and now he's trying to say
its too expensive _after_ he's gotten caught... Like I said, no sympathy
    from me...)

    You have asked them that?
Hang on, that's how you are interpreting education, and from your pov it is
unnecessary. Much like those with a right wing view of the world don't
follow the need for unions. What education do you believe UB has had to
    make your argument correct?
Pass/fail rates are not useful for an examination of education received.
Yes, and why he needs education. You lot are banging on with all _your_
moral guff. Bring it into ethical education, go from there......

There is no definitive answer to those questions. It depends upon if you
are talking about criminal liability, civil liability, what jurisdiction and
    many more factors.

And I don't hold anyone responsible, it's not my job.

  11. Which bit?

Whether they know that you shouldn't park in disabled spaces? I don't
_need_ to ask anyone - UB is all on his own there assuming what he did
was OK, he's got a little support from StephenC who reckons a fine of
$200 would have been fairer that $384, and from Zebee who knows the
parking spot in question and agrees that he was unlucky to get caught
there because a lot of other people haven't been caught recently, but
there's _no-one_ posting in support of UB having parked there.

Whether they knew the magnitude of the fine? Nah, I haven't asked, and
I've got nothing better than a guess to support it, which is why I said
"I'll bet most of them..." (you might notice I even used weasel-words in
the first comment too, saying "every other poster _seems_ to have
    learnt...")

I don't agree with you here.

As I see it, everybody, including UB, knows that disabled parking rules
mean "don't park here unless you have a disabled parking permit".

What UB is complaining about is that he made a decision to break that
rule based on his assumption about the price of the fine if he got
caught. If UB wants to break the rules, I see it as UB's responsibility
to find out the penalties for breaking those rules.

I don't know what the penalty for stealing petrol by driving away from a
servo without paying is, you seem to be suggesting that "they" should
"educate me" about it, or I should be allowed to do it until the first
time I get caught, then they should give me a warning and tell me not to
do it again and not punish me until I get caught a second time.

I don't know what the penalty for armed holdup is. I don't know if
there's a difference between the penalty for armed holdup with a gun or
    a knife or a blood filled syringe. I don't know if there's a difference
in penalty between actually having a gun or just _claiming_ to have a
gun. I don't know what the penalty is for running a meth lab in my
laundry, or whether its more or less than if I was making E or growing
hydro instead. I don't know what the penalty is for stealing a train.
Since "the system", while making me fully aware that I am not allowed to
do those things, makes no effort to "educate me" about the penalties,
are you suggesting I should get one free go at each of those offences
and just be given a warning and be informed of what the penalty will be
    if I do it again?

I know you enjoy stirring things up playing the devils advocate, but I'm
interested to see if you can make a half-way convincing argument that we
need something called "ethical education" to assist people in their
cost/benefit analysis when they're deciding whether or not to break
    rules... :)

  16. I was referring to the above case, where the disability stopped the
person "from walking any distance but not stop them riding or being a
pillion". It's a drop off - no need to do anything other than drop a
person off at the front of the store. No violation except if in a 'no
    standing' zone.
