And cmon, not finding a parking space is hardly 'suffering'. It's a battle
everyone else deals with everyday. Can't find a spot, just look for another
    one.

No... It is supposed to distinguish a disabled person from a person who
can just walk the extra few metres.

On the contrary.. You appear to be evidence that disabled people can
ride bikes... though I don't think your mental disabilities will entitle
you to a parking permit :)

Well $384 certainly appears to have taught you a lesson which $60
    obviously wouldn't have. :)

No $2000 would probably be silly. There is a good reason why the fine
for parking in a disabled place should exceed other fines. A $60 fine
for say overstaying a time limit reflects that the driver has
inconvenienced other drivers who might have wanted to park in the area,
causing them to maybe wait longer to get a parking spot or walk further
when they do get one. Disabled parking is usually (supposedly)
strategically located near to the entrance of somewhere that a disabled
person might want to go. The $384 penalty reflects that the driver (or
rider in this case) parking in the disabled spot illegally might have
inconvenienced a person with mobility problems and forced that person
with mobility problems have to walk (or roll) a lot further than they
otherwise would have. I think the effect of the latter infringement
compared to the former probably does justify the much higher penalty.

People should understand _why_ disabled parking spots are not just
normal parking spots, and not just keep them clear because of threat of
a penalty. If they don't, a $400 fine might help them learn... although
Uncle Bully doesn't seem to have learned why, so maybe your hypothetical
    $2000 fine is justified.

Maybe if you were riding this bike you'd appreciate the extra room...

I thought Pisshead didn't bother with the permits because they were too
expensive, he had to jump through too many hoops to get one, and
disabled people kept parking in his spot anyway...

There is a low usage of disabled spots by disabled persons which means
availability tends to be high when needed.
Well Duh! No offence has been committed!! Do you expect to be fined
because you are doing 95 in a 100 zone or 95 in a 60 zone?
Bullshit, you can seriously disadvantaging people and in some cases you
create a risk to that persons health or safety.
See... now that's why people think you are a dickhead... you _still_ don't
    get it!

Really... so you know that for sure eh.

So when a person who's got bugger all breathing capacity has to park a block
away because lazy inconsiderate arseholes are parked in the disabled parking
bays *6 disabled bays and only 1 car with a disabled notice out of the 6!*
is then faced with wheeling a wheelchair up a hill and has an arrest and
ends up in hospital that's ok by you.

Oh... I forgot, that doesn't happen in your world.

    Except that it did...

It isn't your fault, but it is your duty of care not to place them at risk.
Convenient, maybe they came along and because you use it they can't.
Most wheelchair 'bikes' are actually trikes or sidecars. A trike or a
sidecar needs the space of 3 bikes.
Yes and that's what you are not getting... that this is a serious parking
offence you committed. Sure it's not shooting someone, but it is way more
serious than parking in a normal parking bay.

And this is an appropriate penalty, in that it is high enough to make idiots
who think it's ok to park in disabled parking spots stop parking there...
which a standard $60 fine would not have.

Pete isn't disabled, he's just differently 'abled' ;-)

Was this in the "disabled" space in the bike park near the mall in
North Sydney? Spring St or whatever?

If so, then Pisshead wouldn't be able to use it. Nor anyone on a
Nippi. No 3 wheeler, only 2 wheelers, as they've put up bollards in
    front of it.

Doesn't of course stop everyone with a disabled ticket using it, but
it is a very stupid disabled motorcycle park.

If it is the space I'm thinking of, then this is the first enforcement
I've heard of in the time I've been parking in North Sydney, and
    indeed at all.

It's a very badly designed space, 3/4 of disabled bikers couldn't use
it. And it's become rather like a right of way - sanctified by use.

That being so, I can see why someeone used it. As many have. I am
honestly unsure if this is unrelievedly bad.

A properly designed usable space marked as disabled for bikes,
absolutely, it should be left clear. One that's not usable for the
vast majority of people who need such things, and one that's been
parked in every day for years that's way harder.

Think yourself lucky with a 384 dollar fine.

Some of those folk with disabled parking permits are _seriously_ cranky!

  20. Again, if they're going to set the penalty so high they have an
obligation to warn you before you park there.

I still think it's out of proportion.

The fine for not wearing a seat belt, which has the potential to do much
more harm than parking in a disabled space, is $220.

    That's about the right level.
