And that would probably be for the disabled motorcyclists, ignoring
people like Pisshead who would be entitled to it, it would be intended
for the guys with the wheelchair trikes - the ones they roll up onto and
    close the gate behind them

(no sympathy from here mate, it's one of the few tickets I think needs
    to be policed more vigourously)

How fucking self serving are you ? So what you're saying is that there
shouldn't be such a thing as disabled spots because there's no point as
disabled people will only go and park in them ?
Bullshit. Parking illegally in a disabled spot is taking the spot from
someone who is entitled to it.
Well good luck lobbying for a law change then, however as the regs stand
they aren't equal, and I doubt you'll find many to support you.

  4. We're obviously not sophisticated enough here in Toowoomba for dedicated
handicapped motorcyclist parking. I've not even heard of it anywhere
    else, before.

  5. I agree. And having the penalty spelt out MAY induce people to not
    infringe.
    I don't.

  7. Without necessarily asking to reveal personal details, I'd be interested
(out of curiosity) to know what the valid reason could be.

Obviously because there was a disabled person on the bike. :)

And that is the one I'm talking about. A trike or Nipi *can't* use it.

They've put bollards along a line at the front of the parking area, so
nothing wider than a normal bike can get in.

Bikes have parked there all the time I've been working in North Sydney
and asking about has got me no stories of enforcement.

While parking in disabled areas is bad, a poorly designed disabled
area with lax enforcement but a massive fine is more or less
    entrapment. Bad all round.

The story I heard when asking about it was that a particular rider
campaigned for it, but has never used it.

I don't know if that's cos they don't live there anymore, use a trike
so can't use it, or never was going to.

As it's clearly signposted, it's hardly entrapment... however it is a
good trap for stupid people, as UB discovered.

Fine with me, since I'd never park in one without a disabled passenger
who had a disabled tag in my vehicle and with the tag affixed to said
    vehicle.

So you can make it $100,000 and people doing the *right thing* (and I
don't say that about many laws) wouldn't get fined.

Yeah; I'm starting to get a bit of a whiff of prawn-heads and mullet-gut
    about this thread.

No, I think it is entrapment. That it's not very usable, that bikes
park there all the time, I think it's unreasonable to build such a
useless item for one thing - do it properly dammit! - and then to
not enforce it for years is also wrong. And close enough to
entrapment for me to think it's been shockingly badly handled.

Was it *right* to park there? As in God and his Angels approve?
Obviously not. Was it reasonable to do so? That's way harder. Law
says no, those who see everything in black and white say no, I find it
very much harder to say no.

Given that, I also find it very hard to believe a high penalty is
reasonable. Legal, yes. Reasonable, again that's harder.

  17. $2000 was silly already and even $350 or whatever it was is pretty silly.

Four times the usual fine should be plenty.

What i fail to understand with both of your and zebs reply - is that
UB broke the law [1] and was / is being fine lots of $ - the place
according to zebs and UB is cleary marked as a parking spot for the
    disabled (on motorcycles).

so if one breaks the law - you pay - simple

    Johno

[1] not for us to determine the fine to be paid - if you don't want to
get slugged shitloads... obey the law - simple!

    Beer mate?

  19. Not talking about that mate, try to keep up.

The fine is ridiculously high and should be posted on the site as a warning.

    I am....
The city council have deemed that to be the fine - why should they
    have to post it ?

for UB to avoid that fine - read the signs posted - simple really
