I'm not arguing that the thing isn't clearly signed, or that the law
    wasn't broken.

I'm saying that the space is useless for 99% of disabled riders, that
parking hasn't been enforced there time out of mind, and that this is
    bad.

Given those two things, I can see why someone would park there, and
why a massive fine is not absolutely unreservedly right.

I'd prefer that the council first made the spot *useful* and obviously
so, and that they policed it properly. Rather than taking space with
someting not useful to most disabled riders and thus making life more
difficult for them. "you already have a space, go away", and
sporadically enforcing it thus making it even more useless for
    disabled riders.

A warning that parking in a disabled zone is wrong if you are not disabled
    in not necessary.

I don't have a problem with the fine being posted as a deterrant but to
say it is riduculously high is is simply wrong. The level of the fine
reflects the serious nature of the parking offence (and is one of the
few examples of an appropriate penalty I can think of to be honest).

Zebee I'd prefer (and I'm sure that most of ausmoto would also
prefer)that the parking space be better designed but that is a seperate
issue to the penalty that should apply for parking illegally in disabled
parking bays, and they should be thought about seperately.

To do otherwise is to encourage 'thin edge of the wedge' type problems.

Where would one put a walking frame or wheelcahir on a motorcycle?
Paramedics seem to get a little inconvenienced if they have to get the
spatula out to pick you up off the street.

Only in a universe where right is whatever the govt of the day tell you is
right. Something in my veins will never allow me to comply with that logic.

Feel free to hand yourself to the nearest police person next time you go
even 1km/h over the speed limit. It is the law after all, and all law
breakers deserve to be punished. Simple
Blind obediance is not a good thing.

As opposed to chucking a tanty when an attempt to not let the system
cramp your style doesn't go according to plan.

You took a dumb calculated risk. It didn't pay off. Sucks being you,
    doesn't it?

    It istill isn't guaranteed
Don't get me started ont hos even stupider rules.
By that logic, a disabled person shouldn't park there either. Because when
the next disabled person comes along, they'll be disadvantaged and the
health and saftey will be put at risk because the park will be taken.

No. The penalty should fit the offence. Something under $50 is more
    appropriate IMO.

Which is the same as parking over your alloted time. After your alloted
time, you are no longer entitled to park there.

2 immediate family members and 1 close friend lost to cancer. None of them
were in any state to operate a motorcycle during the rough stages though. I
think your definition of disabled, and the governemnet requirement to get a
disabled sticker are two vastly different things.
IMO if you're disabled enough that a walk around the block seriously
threatens your health, you shouldn't be operating a vehicle on public
    streets.

You clearly don't know what the qualification for a disabled sticker is.

There are bollards there that prevent a trike from parking there.

No greater risk than if I bought a disabled sticker with me.
What would they do if I had a disabled sticker? How does a simple sticker
    change the risk to them?
Nice of the council to put up bollards preventing the use of trikes then.

No it isn't. It is exactly the same. Stealing money off a disabled person
carries the same penalty as stealing off a regular person. Murdering a
disabled person is the same as murdering a regular person. Why do car/bike
    parks get special treatment?

My point exactly. What does a disabled person do if another diasbled person
has their spot? They are effectively in the same position. Are they suddenly
    put at risk?

    Damn that system eh?
