R1 has been nicked

"Nobody died, nobody got hurt" - I never really got the violation thing,
just a slight annoyance that I had the inconvenience of sorting out a
    replacement.

I think most people, however non-materialistic, find the theft of
their possesions more than a slight annoyance even if it doesn't lead
to feelings of rage or whatever. You may, of course, be the exception
    that proves the rule.

The 'violation' doesn't probably come from having the object stolen _per_
_se_ but from the fact that someone took something that wasn't theirs to
take. When my iBook was lifted, I was sitting in the cop shop the next day
doing the official papers stuff, when I asked the cop who was taking my
statement, 'I don't understand it .. it wasn't theirs. How could they have
    taken it?'

He and his uninformed colleague looked at each other like, 'who the **** is
    this ****?'

True, although to be fair, I wouldn't have been sitting on a park bench at
three o'clock in the morning with it on my knee ...

UKRM's going all touchy-feely on me. Not that long ago, a nicked bike
would have had Senior Clique and senior alpha males gearing up with
    baseball bats ..

    Well,

My current car's had the driver's door lock fucked after some scrote
tried to jemmy it - the remote central locking still works so, other
than the minor inconvenience, I've never bothered to do anything about
    it.

My previous car had various windows smashed and the steering column
damaged when someone tried to nick it. I paid to have all that sorted
and offset the (again minor) annoyance with the novelty of using the bit
of wire they left behind to hotwire my own car so I could get it to the
    garage for repairs.

The car I had before that was nicked from outside my flat in Leicester
and eventually recovered at the bottom of the M1. Only thing that
bothered me was they took the stereo and parcel shelf (inc. the pair of
6x9s in it) because, again, I had the slight inconvenience of no tunes
in the car. Not long after that, someone broke into my house (also
Leicester) and nicked a rented tv and my groovy Panasonic VCR. I was so
utterly annoyed by that I didn't even bother to claim for, or get, a
    replacement.

This doesn't mean that I'm inviting all and sundry to pop round while
I'm out and help themselves to the contents of my flat and garage, just
that I'm well aware that shit happens and that's what insurance is for
(at my discretion). All of the above were, of course, reported to plod
as best I could because while I might not be overly gutted about Things
disappearing, I'd rather the inconvenience suffered by the culprit in
each case was at least equal to that suffered by me.

If the RGV went, I'd be a little more annoyed because there aren't
really that many nice ones around these days, but it wouldn't be
impossible to replace (or simply tick that box and move on).

    Feeling any more suspect yet?

  8. I remember when ther Chateau got burgled, and the scrotes nicked a lot
of stuff that had little monetary value, but irreplaceable sentimental
value (gifts from The Doctor's Dad, shortly before he died, nice silver
photo frame holding picture of her brother who died in a bike smash,
kids' Christening gifts, etc) I would have had no fits of conscience had
I been able to strap electrodes to their reproductive organs and flick
    the switch.

OTOH, my camera kit (which went in the same heist) was simply "tools of
the trade", despite being by far the most expensive stuff nicked, and I
replaced it within 48 hours on the insurance, and wasn't bothered at its
    loss.

As for bikes, my Yamaha 900 Divvie was just a consumer durable, like a
washing machine. I had no feelings towards the thing at all. So too with
my present little Honda CD250. Both were/are replaceable.

However, the Ducati and I have forged a bond over 10 years, and I
consider it a part of my psychological make up. I've worked on it,
fiddled with it,k and know every little rattle, squeak and chunter that
    it utters.

And the Honda 400 Four - I have spent, literally, years and hundreds of
hours working on that bike. I have resurrected it from a skanky bike
with a holed Motad and terminal camchain rattle into a cracking usable
classic. My blood has gone into that bike.

And so I'd be distinctly dischuffed if either the Duke or the 400 Four
    went walkies.

It was probably an iiBook in any case.

When some **** tried to break into my garage when I was in germany I
seriously considered an extreme reprisal involving matches.

Seriously, I know 'it's only stuff' but the fact is it's *my* stuff and
I've worked my arse off to afford it. **** with it and if I feel brave
or stupid I'll do something I (probably) regret later.

Ackshurly, I can't be certain that I was sufficiently pissed to do my

Yes, but even if you have insurance you're still likely to be left out
of pocket after expenses and/or premium hikes are taken into
    consideration.

  18. That's a <ding> from me.
The only reason I work is to get money to get stuff I want. When some
**** nicks said stuff I take it *very* personally, since those hours out
of my life that I suffered pain to earn the cash are gone forever and
    for no purpose.
I'm still looking for some **** who nicked an item of mine a couple of
years back. Not much chance of finding him, but if and when I do
    there'll be tears before bedtime.
