Sadly, the world is full of wankers who don't give a **** if they buy
    something stolen.
They do not have the mental capacity to realise that buying stolen goods
    propagates theft.

Until you register with eBay, which doesn't actually prove who you are
anyway, and agree to ABIDE by their DEMANDS (which are not negotiable),
they will do NOTHING. They will also go out of their way to help as
little as possible when the law is involved. They will also happily
allow users who have advertised stolen items/copyrighted material to
continue doing whatever they fucking well want. FACT.

If you inform them in writing, on letter-headed paper, they will still
do NOTHING. It wasn't until it was pointed out that they had been
informed by the copyright holder that they were knowingly allowing one
of their customers to sell stolen property and, because they had refused
to stop this customer that they were guilty of aiding and abetting, and
that I was more than prepared to take them to court, that they pulled
the advert. The seller, of course, is still selling bootleg DVDs - just
    not mine...

Finding out where he lived may have helped him change his mind, too...

    In total agreement with you.
Contact your MP asking for laws to control ebay. I do.

Ok I'll bite. Why then does the irritating bit at the beginning of the
DVD I have just watched has go on and on brainwashing me that breaking
    copyright is theft?

    Theft:
'The criminal taking of property or services of another without consent'

Copying can be considers as 'the taking of services '
Deliberate infringement of copyright is a criminal offence under English
    law.

    [snip]

I would like to see a reference to that. On a (admittedly limited)
Google all the hits I looked at say you cannot copy in the ways you
    mentioned.

Your ignorance is amazing. What you say is utter crap.

No contact whatsoever is required concerning copyright.
Deliberate infringement of copyright is a criminal offence under English
    law.

It's a criminal offence only to copy in order to sell.

Infringement of copyright for other reasons s a civil matter, and in a
fair few circumstances it's actually permitted. Eg video recording a
program for viewing at a later time that is more convenient is
    permitted.

One could argue that downloading something from the internet that has
already been screened on UK tv in order to view at a more convenient
time is perfectly legal under the terms of this act.

So do you really believe that if you made 1 million copies of ''whatever'
and gave them all away, you would not be committing a criminal act.
People actually do the above via file sharing.

I would suggest you go and read
    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1988/Ukpga_19880048_en_7.htm properly.

    I did.

You said it was a criminal offence to copy stuff, point blank.

I pointed out it isn't always. And only when you're copying for a
business. If you copy and distribute without profiting then it's a
    civil matter.

  14. So, once again somebody we've never heard from before pops up and sticks
his oar in only to be proved wrong, but will not accept the fact.

    Funny old world, innit.
