Why are they the other way up? Thanks.
All prior posts acked. 'cos the one you really really really really care about is the upchange. Stamp to change it easier than the alternative. At a guess, since I have never been there or done that.
Nope. It's because you may change up while still banked right over, accelerating round a bend. So there may not be enough clearance between lever & road to get your foot under the lever.
It's also part of the pikey SOB rearset kit - use the pillion pegs and turn the gear lever through 180 degrees.
Devil's Elbow at Mallory has claimed a few because of that happening. I was advised by Danny to short shift two gears as you come out of the Bus Stop and power down the hill in fourth with my toe on the peg - still frightened the shit out of me on his ZX10R
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Lozzo I have been pondering this matter, and have concluded there's some post-hoc justification going on here. I imagine this: Spannawanka: There you go son, now wiv rearsets! RiderMonkey: 'Ere 'ang on, der gear fingies upside-wossname, innit? Spannawanka: <sotto voce> Bollocks! <out loud> Oh yeah that's because... because... Oh yeah! That's so you can change up mid-corner and go faster and everyfink! RiderMonkey: Oh yeah! Oi Eric! Check vis aht! And it's been that way ever since. -- Wicked Uncle Nigel - "He's hopeless, but he's honest" I have already made the greatest contribution to the fight against climate change that I can make: I have decided not to breed. Now quit bugging me and go and talk to the Catholics.
