**** you and your pathetic tiny, unchallenging playlist. You are the best out
of a fucking shit bunch of [1]radio stations in the UK, but if I hear that new
Pet Shop Boys single one more time or that Halo shit, my clock radio's going
    out the window.

    Non-commercial my aris.

Cue "wow, people still listen to the radio over the airwaves without a PVR
    time-shift surround HDTV...<snore>

The "local" rubbish around the areas I drive and live is appalling. They are
all essentially the same station 'Heart' but all they ever play is fucking
Take That (1) and James bloody Morison.
I'll have Radio 2 any day!!

    (1) I wish they'd 'Shove That'

  5. Or get an Internet radio. *Lots* of very very good stations out there
including some outstanding Prog music stations.

R4 is the answer. Music broadcast radio is pointless.

No I *loathe* that program on so many levels.

I love just about everything else about Radio 4. Some of the plays are a
bit ropey, and ditto the comedy, but always worth a try IYSWIM.

If you like challenging noises, give the Freak Zone a whirl.

    <http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/freakzone/>

Prog is quite a narrow subset of their output, though.

It's the only broadcast music that I listen to.

  12. That OK - Prog is just one (the dominant one though!) of the many music
    styles I like.

I'll give it a whirl. It can't be any worse than the anodyne, banal
stuff that R1 and Heart play.

I used to listen to Late Junction until they put it on so late (yes I
know!). These was a cracking music prog on R2 about a year ago
presented by a chap who was a genuine musician. He'd take a theme and
play loads of different music based on that theme - could be chord
sequences, key signature and so on. Blowed if I can remember his name
now, but it was a real pleasure listening to intelligent discussion
    about music.

BTW - Have a listen to Pure Reason Revolution. You might well enjoy it.

Not entirely sure, at least part of it is the fact that you don't get to
hear more than a snippet (IME) of the discs in question.

No I don't think so. IIRC he was a classical musician and had a home
with a studio somewhere in Somerset. However my Google mojo is sadly
depleted this morning and I can't find who it was.
