Radio equipment

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Jeremy Mortimer, Jul 6, 2006.

  1. Are motorcycle-related posts accepted in this group...?

I'm looking for PMR446 based radio equipment for communicating between
bikes. I need a solution for an open helmet (girlfriend, Harley) and
modular helmet (me, BMW - cultural diversity 'r' us). Ideally the equipment
should be worn, not attached to the bike - I've seen PTT buttons velcroed
on a finger, and assume that's creative repurposing of the thing you're
supposed to put on the bars; if so that would do. So, does anyone have
recommendations? Mail order from the UK would be fine (I'm in Switzerland).

OK, sorry for that on-topic lapse. In other business, I note (I only just
got here) that some people here look suspiciously like some people in the
    europe skiing group. Coincidence?

  3. God's truth. She's the biker in the family, I'm new to this stuff.

Fixed pitch fonts are really '80s, by the way.

There's half a dozen at least that post to both groups, plus probably
    more that lurk.

    Ah, All becomes clear.
    I'm an 80's kinda guy.

To have a stab at answering your question, Autocomm seem to get good
reviews in these parts and I *think* they do bike-to-bike. Not cheap,
but they're reckoned to work well.

Occasionally, but don't do it too often.
What, that some usenet-aware people are interested in both snowsprtsd
and motorcycling? Hardly unlikely, is it?

    in Basel, no?

  12. Being a relative newcomer to motorcycling, I had thought that afficionados
were all fat bastards with tatoos. It certainly seems to be a general rule
with HD owners (other than my GF, I add hastily in case she ever discovers
Google groups). I can't see them on skis, although I'd like to.

Still, I shall shortly be a motorcyclist who skis, so yes, they obviously
    exist.

Ahh, I see where you're going wrong. Such people do exist, of course,
but are not in the majority here. Nor are hardly riders, although one
    or two are tolerated ;-)
Well no, but picture the svelt figure of an extreme skier gracefully
making his way down the slopes - now hold that image whenever you're
posting here and you may get the idea.
There are actually loads of parallels - both give a feeling of
isolation (the rest of the world doesn't exist), of speed, of riding
the edge, pushing the angle of lean and the grip, etc. etc. So it's
    not so surprising.
