I don't "do" the tube much these days, but it's only really rough late
at night - never in the mornings, IME (though that's only really of
    The Central Line).

  8. 'Sticking plaster solutions' AKA kludges.

The root cause isn't solvable by the government because it has to do
with peoples upbringing (if you were brought up not to put your feet on
chairs you probably won't do it on the train and vice-versa).

But as you say it's a case of Something Must Be Done and the Government
have a suitable blunt weapon to hand.

A modest proposal for dealing with this problem. Teams of Pavarotti body
doubles employed to sit down very heavily and suddenly on said feet
whenever encountered. If challenged they can point out that whilst they
have perfect eyesight not all passengers do. SMIDSYF.

"All joints on the table will be carved." All feet on the seats will be
    marred.

Ok, so what's so wrong with a big child that he's discriminated against?

  14. I had the opportunity to look at both tube and trains for the first time
in years two days ago. I was quite surprised how clean they were. Mind
you we all have different standards don't we.

which is why this whole feet on seats thing is really just a class war
salvo and not worth being reported outside the tabloids, let alone by
    the bbc.

in fact, why am i even propagating this meme?

just in case you wanted to push your blood pressure even higher:

    http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk...fined-for-anti-social-parking-64375-19883468/

"SUPERMARKET giant Asda announced last week it would start issuing
fines to drivers who park in disabled bays without a blue badge
    throughout their Liverpool stores.

The charge of £60 will also apply to those parking in mother and baby
spaces without young children and will be issued by a private company,
Town and Country Parking, hired by Asda."

not sure what private car park regulations have to do with public transport.
unless asda now has some kind of monopoly of the scouser food mountain and
has become a de facto commons?

for a start "public transport" is an oxymoron. Unless you'd be happy
to refer to supermarkets as "public shopping".
