Those fucking signs on the Motorways, the new matrix ones. They say
something like "Junction 13, 30 miles 27 minutes". Surely that
shouldn't be allowed since whenever one sees that the automatic reaction
is to say "**** that, I can do that distance in X".

Surely offering such a challenge is nothing less than entrapment?

I'm waiting until they say "Junction 13, 30 miles 15 minutes... beat
    that you fucker"[1]

    [1] I wouldn't have last night, 18 minutes.

The figures are for cars and you are on a bike. Dead easy. Around Paris
I divide by two or three for some challenge.

No more so than the ones that say 40 when you're sat stationary in a
    10 miles queue.

Those ones are just designed to wind you up, not to make you ride/drive
    like a ****.

  6. Those are just 'guess my age' routines put up by bored sign operators.

Teach a man to fish and he and his pikey mates will have the

    Heh.

Just outside Kingston, there's one of those lovely signs that flashes
up your speed as you approach it[1]. I've been meaning to use it to
check my speedo accuracy. Also, it only has two digits, so I want to
know what it'll do when I come at it, doing over a ton.

    [1] 38mph (in a 30 zone) the other day.

Sucking his keyboard for inspiration, TOG@toil typed:
I pass a couple on my way to work, but they only repeat the posted limit
with a warning to slow down. I thought the ones that actually gave you your
speed had been withdrawn, after too many people were seeing them as a
challenge, and average speeds were going up instead of down.

We've had them up north for ages. MattG and I were talking about this
last night, as soon as you see one the first thing you do is check the
time on the clock and speed up.
Yes, similar to the recommended speeds for bends. The first makes me
think, I'm going to try and half that, the second, I'm going to try
    and double that.
I'd not thought of it like that, but I do believe you are right.
    Heh.
