I have it reasonably good authority that her nickname amongst
    colleagues is "big bird".

Lovely pic isnt it? I like the fact the he looks as if hes wearing a
    police SWAT-team helmet from Toys-R-Us...

I thought exactly the same thing - the helmet looks like something
from the WWII painted matt black and "POLICE" stenciled onto it.

The BBC are using that picture on the news front page now, heading the
"Police discharged tasers" story. That pic will haunt that copper for
    ever.

Context is all. Look at the bloke just above him. He's also looking in
the direction of the photographer. And the pic seems to have been taken
in dry daylight, not pissing wet gone 1am.

So... that pic isn't actually of the taser being deployed at the time the
shot happened. Reckon it might be taken slightly out of context?

Slightly wider shot, seemingly taken at same time...

  8. If it is some publicity shot then more fool the police for staging it
and then it being plastered all over everywhere. Macho posturing like
this does the police no favours - especially when they were attempting
to apprehend a steroid abusing pumped up macho lunatic. How to appear no
    better than the criminal.

The police seem to have become addicted to their 15 minutes of fame - be
it on stupid things like this or the seemingly endless telly programmes
showing every aspect of police work being done at break neck speed with
weapons and masses of technology. IMO it does not show the police in a
good light at all. I recognise the media demands information and that
it can be a two way street if providing info generates good feedback
from the public. That, however, is a hundred miles away from this
    claptrap.

I suspect Northumbria Police are going emerge from this in a very bad
light once people "join all the dots together".

I'd assume they're from the same photographer, anyway. Similar enough
    location.

Any bets that the "snarl" is actually half-way through yelling "Get that
    fucking journo out of here!"

Ah cmon, the guy was clearly a dick-head. The police did a public
duty. Would you really want to support him in prison at how much a
    week?

  18. The end result though like most reality tv was a forgone conclusion

The star gets massive media coverage then after a very short time
they 'die' and are never heard of again
