Cricket. You know, that game where they play under floodlights and
    bowl 20 overs per innings.

    Twenty20 is not cricket.

And this Stanford farce is *definitely* not cricket.

Well they're going to be using a cricket bat to hit a cricket ball so
    it's pretty close.

  11. Tut, Dodger baiting aside[1], current score being what it is I can't see
many Stanford dollars on the way to the UK.

    The useless bastards.

heh. ISTR Dodger posting that if they were playing one day cricket in
his back garden, he wouldn't bother opening the curtains.

What I heard on the radio this morning made it sound pathetic.

I'm not sure whether to be relieved or worried that the prospect of
earning a tidy sum towards one's retirement provided so little
    incentive.

  15. The brief glimpse I got of it this morning left me unimpressed. It
appeared to be a bunch of breakdancers dressed in football teams'
cast-offs, performing some sort of dance in front of stumps.

    So it _is_ cricket?

  17. I suppose the presence of bats and balls made it likely that something
of that sort was going on, but that would be akin to saying a One-Legged
Trouser bears some relationship to sensibility and coolness.

It was definitely cricket but one or two can't accept that cricketers
want to make money (or not) out of sport.

Personally I prefer test cricket but I can see the attraction in being
able to finish work then pop into the local ground and watch a cricket
match before going home with a takeaway.

    I concur.

Hampshire with Shane Warne were visiting Glamorganshire to play a 50 over
game and then a 20-20 job. I took my lad to see both, as he has always
lived in Hampshire. The 50 over game was a bit dull at times and the
atmosphere crap. The 20-20 game was very good entertainment with some
thoroughly enjoyable, if childish, chanting of "who ate all the pies" as a
    very rotund[1] SW wobbled around.

As far as test cricket is concerned, I love the way a game evolves over the
5 day period[2]. For this reason, listening to the radio coverage is my
favourite way to keep in touch, as the banter about tactics etc is a great
part of the experience. I'm not so sure I could watch it live at the
    ground.

[1] he slimmed down quite a bit for the Ashes series
[2] or 4 days, as is the fashion nowadays

I'm going to see Henry Blofeld on Thursday evening; should be amusing.

I enjoy it as a day out with my mates for a few beers, hopefully some
sun and a bit of an atmosphere. However, we went to the Oval as usual
this year and only got an hour and a half's play.
