    Do they bollocks.

Maybe by your merkin standards, but getting anything resembling proper
Italian pizza in either country is nigh-on impossible.

Well, depends how specific you are going to be with country. If you say
Leeds is British rather than English then I disagree.

In S.Wales we have some fantastic Italian restaurants. There was a mass
migration of Italians to S.Wales between WW1 & WW2. Many of them set up
catering businesses which are still family concerns today.

Whilst the best pizzas I've eaten have been in Italy (or the Little Italy
bit of Grenoble as I've regaled to you before) you can get very, very good
    pizza in the UK.

    1) I don't like Italian pizza (yes, I'm had some).
    2) It was better than anything here.

FFS, pizza is not some homogenous, factory produced crap. Simply try
another restaurant. Recipes for bases and toppings vary widely as they tend
to use whatever produce is fresh and local. Two of the best pizzas I've
eaten don't have a tomato sauce base...
    Obviously

That's harsh, we've not just got ham and pineapple pizza, but also
spaghetti hoops, cornetto, *and* Valentino Rossi (plus his taxes). The
next step to being true Italians involves offshoring the role of pope to
    AndrewR..

There's a place that does a bbq chicken pizza. It has bbq sauce in place
    of the tomato paste.

Well, I was thinking more on the lines of

    a) in Grenoble: onions fried with lardons which were spread across the base
before being smothered with mozzarella and some other aromatic cheese(s)

    b) in Sorrento: a variety of vegetables sauteed in olive oil, spread across
the base and topped with mozzarella and seafood.

Sounds interesting. I've only been in the north (Aosta Valley), maybe
    they just do crap pizza?

You get crap restaurants, even in Italy. As I've posted before, there is a
disconcerting trend towards US style shopping malls and food courts...

When it comes to food & drink, the Catholics have the way of it. Shame
    about that other stuff, though...

    a) That's like saying you don't like Mexican chilli, Indian curry or
    Japanese sushi.
    b) It can vary, as others have pointed out.
    c) Anything that you eat in 'slices' with your fingers is not pizza.
Perhaps made by an Italian then. It's worth pointing out that most US
'Italians' can't even spell and pronouce their own names correctly, so
the chances of them making anything vaguely authentic is very remote
    indeed.

    I don't like that either.
I use a knife and fork.
This sounds like something des would come up with.

I generally err towards tuna, onions and an egg on top. Round here
they do more of the local variation 'Tarte Flambée' which tend to be
lightly coated with a creme fraiche based topping, with thinly sliced
lardons and onions. Quite different, but v. nice.
