What are you wibbling about man. You are trying to compare a hand built
piece of automotive engineering art to a thrown together from chunks of
pig-iron and recycled beer cans Harley. You've been doing far too many
drugs, go back to rehab or whatever you leftpondians call it.
I say thank god it is Ford, or we'd have lost the name and prestige it
carries for ever. By the way, Bentley (with a second 'e') is now owned
    by VW, a German company.

Of course it is. And you don't have the name or the prestige of
Jaguar any more, you silly island third-worlder. You've lost
everything,... that's why you suck at the teat of the Japanese (and
soon enough, Koreans and Chinese) and hurl bitter emails towards the
first world. Now, back into your cold water walk up with you, dole
    boy!

    I don't think it's accidental, I think it's a don't give a ****
attitude because they do it to their own troops as well.

I've got a bit of a suspicion that a lot of the 'friendly fire' is
carried out by all those rich white boys flying national guard
aircraft and they just assume that anyone on the ground can't possibly
be white so it doesn't matter.

  8. Shame. You were almost talking sense :))

Incidentally, Jaguar's QC has improved rather since Ford bought the
    company.

  9. Actually, they're not. Dave Silver has discovered that the handle from a
CB750K4, still available, fits. It's got the wrong bend in it, and so
the anoraks won't buy it, but it looks OK and it fits.

Dave Silver has visited many of the OE suppliers in Japan and told them
he'll buy X quantities of their products and so he keeps their
production lines going, which is why you can still get brand new seats
and exhausts for 400 Fours - and at reasonable prices, too. A complete
OE four-into-one system is about £300.

Yes I agree with the .45 - it fits better into the shoulder holster in the
upright riding stance on the Harley. Very uncomfortable on my Triumph Trophy
    1200.

WTF? Where the hell did the chew comment come from? You really don't
have a clue what you are talking about, do you? For your info I can't
stand tobacco of any kind. My dad is a heavy smoker and I never saw
the point of it. Especially if it meant I would have to take money
from my hobbies in order to buy something that was going to get used
    for nothing.
I could care less whether you accept it or not. I wouldn't have
believed it either if I hadn't have seen the bike with my own eyes. It
did happen and I saw the bike. All I was doing was passing it on as
part of my comments. This is usenet. Everything here should be taken
with a grain of salt in the first place. Anyhow, call me a liar all
you want as your opinion means nothing to me.

Harleys aren't the only bikes that get sold then sit around. The 1981
Honda I bought a few months ago only had 7,600 miles on it when I got
it. It now has about 10,000. I've seen a lot of Harleys that were less
then half the age of my Honda that had more mileage on them. Yes,
quite a few of them will end up being garage queens but your "guess"
of 99% is bullshit. I see a lot more Harley riders out when the temps
drop then I do any other bike. That's because they believe in riding
their bike instead of leaving it in the garage. The percentage of
those that don't ride their Harley that much is a lot smaller then you
think. You would realize that if you take the blinders off and open
    your eyes.
But as someone else pointed out it is not due to the manufacturer but
in fact due to some other guy forcing the production of parts. I can
get a lot of aftermarket parts for my 1981 Honda but not right from
Honda as they have discontinued the parts. A perfect example was the
petcock rebuild kit. I figured a kit for a 1981 Honda would have been
no problem to get as a factory kit but nope, no longer supported by
Honda. The "quality" aftermarket kit I got had a stiffer spring and
diaphragm for the vacuum port for the fuel control and I ended up not
being able to run above 60 mph for more then 3 miles before the fuel
would cut out due to lack of flow. Talk about a waste of money. I was
    better off leaving it alone.
Try doing a little research next time. The history of the Sportster
name in the Harley lineup goes back to the late 50's. Back then it was
one of the fastest bikes around and that includes all bikes, not just
against American made stuff. Yes, there are newer bikes by other
makers that put the Sportster to shame but in the Harley lineup the
Sportster is the best handling bike they make.
Yes, they are overpriced but that is because people are willing to pay
the price for them. Is that Harley's fault? I don't think so. If you
don't like the price of something then don't buy it. Get over it.
Nobody was asking you to like them. You obviously have an interest in
a different style of bike and more power to you. That's no reason to
go off the deep end and say they are worthless pieces of crap just
    because "you" don't like them.

What makes no sense to me is I never did or said jack to you yet you
came in to the middle of one of my replies with both fists flying and
started giving me a rash of uncalled for bs. First you make fun of who
was willing to give a guy a chance then you went on about how I must
be a neanderthal of a mechanic because I was hired by them. Do you
have an inferiority complex that compels you to put down other people
in order to boost your own self image? If so then why don't you have a
go at ridiculing me for my time in the Air Force? Better yet, my wife
is also in the Air Force right now. So you can score twice the a-hole
points in one shot. I've also got a commercial driver's license and
drive a truck at nights on the weekends. Care to have a go at that one
    too?

Now if you will excuse me I just got home from a 13 hour shift driving
that darn truck and I am going to bed. Don't have to much fun in my
    absence.

I was told by our mutual friend in Essex that Honda are now listing that
part again. maybe he got it wrong.
So we're talking OE parts but direct from the OE supplier rather than
    the bike manufacturer? That's nice.

If so, please remember that overhauling the church's doctrines doesn't

Not entirely true, the US govt taxed imported bikes over 700cc so
heavily that it made buying a Japanese one above that capacity very cost
prohibitive. This is why you got the VFR700 when the rest of the world
got a 750 model. As all Harleys are above 700cc it was good for them,
but that's about the only reason they survived. Back when that tax law
was introduced Harley were in the doldrums producing bikes that were 100
times worse than the crap they churn out now. If it wsn't for the 700cc
tax Harley would be dead and buried. Thank the govt of the time, they
are who helped Harley survive, not Harley themselves.
