    Yes.

And you sound like the bloke who did attempt to buy a bike off me on fleabay
once, didn't have the time to come to do see it and refused the offer of
high-resolution pictures because it apparently would cost him too much to
    download them.

When he came to collect the bike, he was complaining about some
discolouration in the frame paint due to the battery having chucked out
some acid ages ago and that "this wasn't visible in the pictures on ebay".

At this point I wished him Godspeed, although I used a slightly different
expression that wasn't quite as flowery.

Strangely enough the bloke who eventually bought it off me seems to be very
happy with the bike, nonewithstanding the fact that he filled several pages
    of Realclassic.co.uk with its antics.

    Yes, absolutely.

GS500E and GSX600F. Absolute bargains the both of them. The GS was a minter
    for 601gbp.

Bought three bikes from abay. One I wasn't happy with, but didn't lose
much when I sold it straight on ... ;) The two others I still have and
    have been extremely happy with.

Me too. I've always bought my superdreams in pairs whilst looking for
other parts, and have always come away with more than advertised. ('do
you want this box of bits ?')
    Bitter ? ;)

    Cheers

    Paul.

    Yes, twice

The Zephyr was an ebay bike, although having been to view and test ride
    it we did a deal.

We bought my lad's TS50 without viewing it.
It was pretty much as described, just needed a bit of fettling.

    <snip tale of woe>

Interesting. My local dealer, near where I work, has been chuntering
about the cheap Chinese kids' bikes, because he can no longer shift a
single Yamaha PW50 or PW80, and he always used to do nicely out of them
    before Christmas.

But now Chinese things are avaialble for a few hundred quid. He's
adamant that a decent Pee Wee 50, used, for £400 is a better buy than a
brand new Egg Foo Yong 50, and I think he's right.

He has people coming to the shop with dead bikes and scooters, asking if
he can fix them, and he just shrugs and says he can't get the parts. And
on the occasions when he can get them, the parts themselves may be
cheap, but when the punter is presented with a labour charge for £150,
they scream, because that's 30% of the price they paid for the whole
    bike.

Only way to go is to treat them as utterly disposable items, and throw
them away when they go wrong, which goes against the grain somehow.

As for your Lad's TS - if that's a TS50, then no, it won't depreciate at
all, and if he cares for it might actually go up in value. That was my
experience with my son's Yamaha DT50MX, anyway, and that's a very
    similar bike.
