Recommend a bike

I'm going to dip my toe in and to the CBT next weekend. I haven't got time
to do the full test and I have a car off the road and need to be mobile.

I have wanted a bike for years and now seems like a logical time to get into
    it.

So, can anyone recommend a bike for a 6 foot 17 stoner, or will a 125 not
pull a fat bastard like me?

I want to spend under a grand if poss.

    Cheers,

    Rick

Frankly you are going to find any 125 miserable going at those
dimensions. How about the direct access to larger bike method that
    exists in England?
Failing that perhaps one of the 125cc trail bikes, which are a bit
bigger. Hopefull TOG will be along shortly to advise you which one is
easily de-restricted to a power fit for your dimensions.

I'm sharing a car with the missus and it isn't ideal, so need to get mobile
    asap.

There is no danger of a week off work, so I guess CBT would get me moving.

I'll get on a diet if it will help!

DT125 or similar them. Decent seat height and at least you can play off
    road/up pavements

Hows about an RD Yamaha as a restoration project? We have an "expert" on
this group, who can fully restore one for less than £10!

  7. What he said. It's got to be a dirt bike, really. A Honda 125 Varadero
    is ideal, but pricey.

Used bikes - well, decent 125 dirt bikes are always in the want, so
budget at least a grand and look for a Yamaha badge.

How far will you be going?

If you're not going more than 10 miles on a trip, grab anything.

I'm 6-3 and weigh more than you, just sit on the bugger and bounce a
bit, first. If the suspension bottoms out, try another.

I recently had a giggle-fest on a shagged out old C70. It maxed out at
45 and bounced like space hopper, but it was fun.

Find something in reasonable nick, ride it. Then stop fucking about
    and pass your test.

    Dare I suggest Hongdou GY125?

You must've owned some crap then.

I can understand as far as the VFR & Divvie go, but I think I'd enjoy a TRX
    much more.

I can't remember any of your other bikes.

Bonwick will probably be along with another perspective shortly...

    It gets shit reviews here
    http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews98775.html

However it's the right money and I will only do a few hundred yards per day.
Where can I buy one? I've done a google, the only ones i'm seeing are on
    ebay.

There's some muppets posting reviews, too.

They're as good as you want them to be - remember, it'll be delivered in
a crate so a lot of it is down to your assembly skills. I took 2 days
over it, just to make sure everything was done properly.
Ebay is the place to buy. Make sure you check out the feedback of the
sellers - there's some sharks out there - and ensure you're buying from
someone who has the bike in stock - you don't want to be paying someone
to order one off the next boat in.

Finally, pay by credit card - if the seller won't accept a credit card
over the phone, don't buy from them.

(You may have difficulty getting a chargeback from your creditcard
    company if you use paypal)

On paper, it's shite - 200cc, tops out at 65mph and has cheap tyres and
    suspension.

But it's a laugh to ride, because it's so shit.

    I've got a GS450T up for grabs.

Needs a small amount of work for MOT or I can get it all done and whack
another 200 or 300 onto the price.

It's yours for 200 as it is.

I don't *think* it makes more than 33bhp, bicbw.
