  1. I finally got the GS below 35 to the gallon.

It hasn't been easy. Many short journeys at full chat and about three
times as many "why not you only live once" moments on the way but I have
done it. I am a man.

Innit lovely out today? I am going out again now, not because I have
to, although I do but simply because I can and <30mpg beckons. I may
    not be long.

It has been kin hard work I tell you. Those things really are
economical and the more I ride it the more I like it.

Although coming home with a *huge* battery on the back for the mongvan
today made for some interesting differences to slow speed wibbling that
I don't want to repeat, too often.

The absolute worst I got out of mine (a 450) was 42mpg.

    Well done.
I took the rat out the other day. I got just up the road and it was
squirming all over the place. I thought I must've been a nutter to ride
it before because the handling was so bad but when I got back I noticed
there was 10psi in the front and 15 in the back.

Have you got your Mongvan back on the road now then?

It has been interesting round here for the last couple of days, we have
had rain but not enough to wash the roads clean in a few places. Much
caution on routes not recently travelled is the order of the day.
Nearly. The new battery is having a top up charge as we speak and once
running reliably it has got to go for it's mot. Next week sometime
    probably.

I log all fuel in all our vehicles, I find the figures useful in a 'sad git'
    kind of way.

I emptied the fuel tank on my Firestorm completely in 63 miles. 17 litre
tank so what's that in mpg?

    Taking it to Cornwall?

It's safe now, if you are practiced at riding in fewer than ideal
    conditions.

    This is plan B.

Plan A includes having a motorcycle trailer hung on the back.

16.6 mpg according to my calculator.

That was a nearly new bike too, not some hanging old nail that had been
thrashed to death. I knew VTRs were bad on fuel, but that's taking the
    piss.

Bandit 12 owners, in a way. The current steed returns less than 80
miles to reserve even when the airbox isn't full of mice.
Precisely the way. Forget to zero it and yer B12 man is fucked with a
    sharp stick.

There are two options: fill it again at the first opportunity (it'll
prolly need filling anyway) and remember to zero the fucker this time
    - or ride till reserve time, then biddle about like a girl, sweating
increasingly heavily for 25 miles or so - then push it, sweating
    buckets.

Why do we do that, the ride like a girlie for a while and then go silly
    bit? I certainly do it.
