    Hi all,

I've got some time off the next couple of days. I'm thinking of heading
up the to the reefton spur, doing the black spur and kinglake down here
in Victoria. Has anyone done it recently? Some have said be careful
this time of the year. I'm always careful, but is it that bad at this
    time of the year?

    thanks in advance,

    Depends.

High winds (seen any lately?) tend to knock a lot of bark and branches
and stuff onto the roads. Rain helps make them slippery. Roads less
travelled take a little longer to clear.

In good weather, those roads are fun, but you need to stay alert (but
    not alarmed).

It has been known to snow up there. If it's cold, beware ice deep in
the sheltered bits (like the apex of a tight corner) especially early in
    the morning.

Check the weather before you go.

On the Black Spur and road from Marysville to Reefton watch out of carloads of
people heading to Lake Mountain to go skiing. Watch out for snow and ice and
bark and sticks (and occasionally trees) on that road also. At this time of
year the shady side of the corners rarely dry out even with it is good
weather. Take your wet weather gear and wear thermals.

Yeah if you want a better ride come out west with me. MartyH, Pisshead Pete
and I are heading west for some crumpets and then east to west for some fish
fingers and half a pound of bread but only if the weather is good and the
road parties are not too much fun LOL. Be very careful for the rabbits in
strezlecki ranges they have a habbit of trying to race the bikes down the
highway before diving under the front wheel for shelter ;-)

hehehehe also beware of the big bad wolf cos he's going to come and get some
of you soon and eat you for breakfast before washing you all down with a
    thickshake heheheeh mmmmmm ;

It's just a tad nippy right now up at the top of Reefton ... that's
Lake Mountain up there, you know. Kinglake and Black Spur don't
get as cold, and the two roads across from Kinglake to Healseville
    are always good.
