I was looking at a bike for sale today. The registration document confirms
the "W" reg. number but says the bike was first registered in 2002. Can
anyone explain how this might have come about?

  2. An import? I have a GSX600FL, on an H plate, first registered
_in the UK_ 03/07/2000. I've owned it since new, bought on 31/06/1991.

If it's an import the plate will be age-related for its year of
manufacture, but the V5 will show the date of first registration in the
    UK.

Or it may be a "personal" registration that's been transferred onto the
    vehicle.

It has a date of first registration and "(DECL/D MANUF nnnn)" after
    that.

Oh yeah, so does mine for the bike I imported from Holland. For the US
import it has both dates the same, with a different date (in fact, just
    a year) for "declared manufactured".

I think they make it up as they go along.

    You think that's bad?

I've got one here that says first reg 2001, declared manufactured 1962,
    Historic Vehicle...

Small drawback... It also says "Declared new at first registration"...

Oh, and if you do an RAC vehicle data search on the plate, it comes up with
the manufacturer blank and model blank.

You'd almost think they'd never seen a VeloSolex before.
    <pseudo-gallic shrug>

LOL. I hesitate to ask, but...

    What's the taxation class?

It appears DVLA don't have a "so fucking slow it's positively glacial"
class, nor do they have an "even slower than a fat **** on a mountain
    bike" class.

A WHOLE 0.75 broken horse power.

I must get the other one registered this year. Or buy another reg plate.
    That might be easier.

Oh yes, that's the class of course. Thanks. Shame, I was hoping for
    "LGV" or similar.
One Velo-Solex may be considered a misfortune, two...

I'd *love* a go on one some time though. Don't suppose you're attending
the UKRM BOSM by any chance?

My Guzzi's (ex Spanish Plod Bike) V5C has date of registration (in my
    case 13 06 1995) followed by "Decl/d Manuf 1979"

Phew! I thought for a moment there that you'd got an ex-Franco plod
    machine.

What a difference four years make, eh?

Yeah, fucking hilarious and TBH it's not as if Spain suddenly became a
workers paradise in 1975; that wasn't until 1982; the Franco supporting
military was still a major force until about 1981 (the failed coup).

It doesn't. I think it's trying to end its own life.
