razor blade is good, you can get those $2 packet of razor blade, stanly knife
packs and they have the paint scraper type which works well

also think its CRC that makes gasket remover in a spray can , razor blade
    always cheaper though

  8. Heres a similar product from Loctite, might be a bit easier to get.
    http://www.loctite.com.au/industrial/PRODUCTS/790.htm
Has a good description of what it will do.

Darons suggestion is still good though, I've used a sharp knife or blade for
years and still have most of my fingers. Just be careful with soft aluminium
    surfaces, they mark easily.

  9. Yeah, i took a small gouge out of one of the corners with a sharp knife. Its
ok, and will still seal, but just made me worried about doing the rest of
    it.

Why not try your local Autoparts shop and ask for the CRC gasket
stripper. Dead easy stuff to use as its an aerosol can.
Just don't get it on any rubber or plastic. It works great , I
have used it heaps at work on diesel engines and for stripping
the yellowed lacquer from aluminium parts that I want to polish.
