    Is this really true?

"Our Google Map above contains over 1000 Gardaí speed trap locations. We
feature all the fixed safety camera locations as well as the locations of
the most frequent mobile cameras. We have further filtered this list down to
    600."

    From http://www.irishspeedtraps.com/

Have they really installed 600 cameras? Seems a bit much if they have.

Why? There are over 2000 in the Netherlands and UK (each).

  3. No, there are very few fixed cameras at the moment. They are set to
increase some time in the future, but it's not clear when exactly.

They have 600 *locations*. There are actually very few fixed cameras,
almost all between Dublin and Newry.

Because it's overkill for a country where most people still take their
potatatoes to market by donkey cart.

  7. The Minister of Not Having Fun announced last year that there would be a
purchase of 600 Gatso-type cameras and they would be installed by this
    summer.
The thousand-odd sites on that map are, as far as I can see, mostly
favourite spots for Speed Gards to sit at, but the majority of current
Gatsos are in and around Dublin.

They're still growing potatatoes? I thought that the famine was still
    raging.

I think they're still angry about it.

    I saw on this site ( http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/activecams.php ) where
the UK now has a total of 11,098 cameras. Crikey! They've indeed gone mad!

And now they will take to the sky as well:

Talk about a police state-of-affairs and yet no one feels safer?

arrested for something and you will forfeit your license over to us at 12
    points." Barrister P. Pockets.
