Excellent hotel in Wirges just east of Koblenz
    http://www.hotel-paffhausen.de/

The food was very good. The bar, well the waiter service on the terrace,
kept going until we were ready for bed.

It's very popular with people using the Nurburgring (under 50 miles away).
The owner has a Ducati 999 track bike parked in the lobby.

The owners speak very good English if you want to phone/email.

No secure parking might deter the paranoid.

It's often cheaper to buy multi-packs in super markets. For example,
six cans of Coke usually works out cheaper than buying six individual
    cans.

You can get the same chocolate Viennese biscuits that M&S sells for a
lot less if you buy them in Iceland. Same shit, different packing.

Go down/up the Mosel, quieter roads & just nicer.

Good cheap accomadation in BernKastel-Kues. If you're interested I'll
    post/send details

If you go into the Mosel, then Trier is a nice city in which to spend a day
off the bikes. I was lucky in that I arrived during their jazz & wine
festival. They had some very good bands playing outside the Porta Negra.
All free. Their wine does not suit my taste but I was happy drinking the
local(ish) Bitburg bier on the terrace of an adjacent bar whilst listening
    to the music.
