rich monster

My son has an 01 Sie Ducati Monster. yesterday it began to run rough and
refuse to idle.
A check revealed both plugs black with soot. quick check of air filter,
cleaned plugs and
off he goes. back with bike doing same thing. checked plugs again. both
black with soot again.
would it be fair to say he has a prob. with the fuel injection ? Oh yes,
checked to see if choke
wasnt sticking on. It wasnt :-(
Any ideas ??

First thing I thought of:

Is the temperature sender wire connected? False temperature readings
could fool the computer into thinking it needs cold enrichment.

Is there a separate cold start injector? could this be leaking?

Now I don't know much about Ducatis specifically, but is there an
engine check light? If so, you need to put the thing in diagnostic
mode and check for fault codes. Can't help much more than that, but if
there are some Ducatisti who know how to do this you might be lucky
and have the ECU actually tell you what's wrong with it.

 

i thought about the temp. sender too but dont know wot it looks
like/where it is.
I'm more used to stone age bikes. thanks 4 the reply.
