Great riding. I had to trade my nuts to get a couple of weekdays off but it
was worth it. I forgot how much fun that rollercoaster section of 4 near
Ebbets Pass is to ride aggressively. And I love that little bit of 89/4
that winds along the river south of Markleeville. Another great piece of
roadwork is the north section of the June Lake Loop (CA 158) with a string
of esses above the lake that are picture perfect. In fact that picture is
my desktop background from now on. Most of 108 is in really great shape and
tons of snow near Emigrant Pass. Snow-melt waterfalls where everywhere. NV
120 going over to Benton is top fun. 95 alongside Walker Lake is freshly
paved and begging for abuse. Only cops I saw all trip (900+ miles) were
near a shitty little town called Shurz, NV and of course the usual patrols
on 50 from Carson City to South Lake Tahoe.

I got summertime riding in the desert down pat. Not only is the key
hydration, but soaking all clothing/gear in water for evaporative cooling is
a must. Sometimes it's so freaking hot that I must stop quite often (20-50
miles) to re-drench my gear and my helmet. Look at the funny biker pouring
water in his jackets' sleeves!! Once the gear is soaked, riding triple
digit speeds in triple digit temperatures is actually quite comfortable.
The two signs that indicate pulling over and drinking water immediately are
a funny taste in your mouth and a slight headache.

    Later!
