RiDE textile suit test

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Varnsverry, Sep 3, 2005.

  1. Just caught sight of the latest (October) edition of RiDE, and the
Halvarssons Safety suit I have been championing in UKRM has picked up
the "Recommended" award with 54 out of a possible 55 points (one mark
lost because "a tiny amount of water came through at the collar").

Unfortunately, RiDE hasn't included mention in its reporting of the
all-weather versatility of the Halvarssons suit, on which I have
    previously enthused.

"Best Buy" went to the Hein Gericke "Cruise" suit (51/55).

Did you ever come up with a price on this?
I am really disappointed with my HG kit. Urban jacket, coming unstitched
in the shoulder area, small zippers on sleeves keep jamming and no
zipper to attach to pants. Cargo pants, small zippers keep jamming and
no belt around the waist. The front zipper keeps popping open due to my
    fat belly.

I've gone back to wearing my other kit.

Hmm. Not familiar with the poducts you've got, but my HG Voyager III
Goretex trews were excellent vfm compared to similarly spec'd products
    from the other main manufacturers.

If I have one criticism of them it's not having waterproof pockets but
they don't claim to be, anyway.

You're actually the first person I've encountered who's had a negative
    experience with HG goods.
    What's that, for comparison's sake?

The jacket and pants have sheltex liners and they did a good job of
    keeping me dry.
Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket/pants. They are very similar in style, I think
they are better thought out and made.

Might look out for that - does it mention if they've got a UK distributor
    yet?

And some have minor little niggles but don't mention it.

The main zip on my latest Voyager jacket has to be put together "just
right" or the thing won't go. Snot the end of the world I know but it
does detract from the experience, especially as it happens when I am all
excited about going out on my bike, like I get when I am going out on my
bike. I like going out on my bike and I really can't be arsed to be
faffing around with iffy zips when I do.

Was that before or after we did that day out on the FOT route? :)

    Cunning :) Very cunning.

You never know, I might still put it in a hedge, but I'm hoping not - at
    least not without outside assitance.

    And this surprises you, how?
Well then you're right, I've not been paying attention.

Mined ewe, it's all a bit personal, isn't it? I mean, I really rate my
current all-season jacket[1] compared to my previous one[2] so, go
figure what I know about the price of fish.

The thing about a dead pool and UKRM.... is how do you know?

I mean if someone stacks it on a UKRM ride, then obviously you know - but if
they don't and do it elsewhere, then we may never know.
There have been numerous people who've popped up all keen and then
disappeared (Wayne Pascoe, that Zobo bloke etc) but we never really know
    why....

Or is the rule that they have to stack it on a UKRM ride - if so, it's
really poor odds as there are so bloody few of the things these days!

At last - after the cheek and abuse you've heaped in his direction over
the years. ISTR he was the only chappie who helped you with that move -
I thought he was deranged to do it but he was still a bright shiny
    newbie then ;-)

It's still something I give a second or two of thought to - what happens to
the people that stop posting - is just that - they've stopped posting, or
    something else.

Then the second is up and I stop caring :)

The zips on both of our Voyagers gave up the ghost some time ago; the
press-studs on my pockets have failed, and they're both as waterproof
    as a Typhoo tea-bag.

They're also currently in a recycling bin in SW France, having been
replaced with a Bering (me) and a Lady Levior (her), following our
    trip to Andorra.

He did say thanks at the time actually - and whilst it sounds like I moved
mountains, the reality is I stuck some stuff in boxes and we talked bikes
and shit for a bit :)

Oi Bear - was that the same night that I rang you from the roundabout after
the bike had conked out due to carb icing? <happy[?!] memories>
