Riding books.

  1. Currently my entire crop of riding books consists of "Twist of the
    Wrist II" & Roadcraft.

What else can the FOAK recommend? Wasn't there a book on real world
    riding by a DR?

To be honest, the best thing you can do is get out there and ride. Perhaps
    take a Police observed ride.

  3. I think doing a Police obsevered run on the train in to work in the
morning might cause a few problems.

Other places I read are on the Lav, in bed, random moments when there's
    nothing on TV.

Apart from that thanks.... great... top advice.

PS. What is it about usenet? You ask, "What kind of rollerskates should
I buy?" and every time someone comes along and says "what you really
should be asking about is a rabbit hutch.".

I think you've got the main two. Roadcraft which details the very
useful correlation between limitations and focus, plus danger areas and
TotW which covers the mechanics of riding, lines, etc. Together I
reckon they'll potentially keep people alive a lot longer than learning
    purely from mistakes.

Have you tried the Kama Sutra?
Don't bother with 'A Twist of the Wrist', it will make you go blind.

Mine's the black waxed cotton Trialsmaster.

  6. Mind ewe, there's a lot in it which is already common knowlege,
obvious, common sense or all three.

  8. Tempting. If it fits in my hip pocket and has riding technique insights
and some nice diagrams then I might be interested.

"The Collected Posts of Whinging Courier".

Do you want instruction books, or books about the motorcycle thang in
    general?

Books will tell you about certain techniques but what I'm trying to tell you
is you cannot beat going out on the road and gaining useful experienced. A
few hours spent with a good instructor is much better than any book. IMO.

    Now about those rabbit hutches.

  11. If I'd asked to be patronized this would be a great response. If I'd
asked about improving my riding it would be a great response. If I'd
confessed to a deep seated desire to be talked down to, then it would
    be bang on the mark.

However I asked specifically about books. A few hours spent with a good
instructor is not as good as a book *if* you're looking for a book.

Right now I'm reading Jupiter's Travels. I know riding round the world
for 4 years is better than any book. ...but it keeps me entertained on
the train. Which is all I require of it.

Ok, so are there some must-have techniques you 've heard of that you
currently don't have the knowledge to practice? Or are you just
covering all your bases in case there are?

  13. Neither, I just want something to read on the train.

  15. "There is also a lot of humour regarding his decision making -his
continual change of mind about something as simple as the colour is
gently but warmly amusing - stick at the original capacity or bore out
the engine for more performance? White walled tyres or not?"

Wouldn't matter any way. Whatever choices he made, some boring fucker
would come over to it and start going on about how they never fitted
    those at the factory.

Don't ride and read. You'll fall off.
