....is a definitely a good idea once in a while.

I'd sort of noticed that the TL was producing rather more gunshot
noises on the overrun than usual, but with earplugs out I can clearly
    hear the exhaust blowing too.

Ah well, It's due a service now anyway. I'll just have to spread it
out slightly 'cos I'll need to order the requisite seals etc.

Unfortunately, I need to get the oil change done smartish in the
meantime because those nice people at Cambridge Motorcycles lent me an
oil filter wrench and I'll need to get it back fairly quickly.

At the moment, Boots foam jobbies. These are OK for me.

I quite liked those green Max Lite ones, but the only place that I've
seen them locally is Washbrook Farm motocross track, and since the YZ
has been mothballed these last six months then I haven't had a chance
    to restock.

Odd, I used to notice things more with earplugs.
The extra noise when not wearing them masked all sorts
    of problems.

Having remembered the cost of individual packs of earplugs
when I was back in the UK, I was going to offer to get a
bulk order (they're about 10 pence a pair in bulk over here),
and send them to a central location over there, but then I
found this site, which seems to have reasonable prices for
    the howard leight "max" plugs.

Odd - that's two of you. Certainly for me the Guzzi sounds very, um,
    mechanical, with earplugs out.

Actually, there is a ticking that the TL makes that's audible with or
without earplugs, but it's still louder without.

None of my bikes have aftermarket cans, perhaps yours does?

Well duh. "Sounds louder without earplugs" shocker.
It could be that the particular frequency of noise caused
by your problem is exactly the frequency removed by the earplugs.

Or you could be in such fine gestalt with your machine that
with earplugs you just don't get the whole landscape of sounds?

    Or maybe you're just a deaf ****?

I never used to wear earplugs but my new Davida is very snug and damps
out all mechanical noise, coupled with the slight wind noise I can't hear
a thing wearing it; to the point I'd end up over reving the Guzzi.

Earplugs solved that by cutting out the wind noise and bringing out the
engine - IYSWIM. Although I can't hear the tappets or induction anymore.

Yep, it's the tappets that're mostly drowned out for me.

The Quota doesn't have much induction noise.
