Being a newbie biker I had to get my first road tax for my VFR today. £40
    for a year? - what a bargain!
I should have done this ages ago.

£40? What engine size is that for?

  3. If you thought a bike would be cheaper than a car to run I'd say
    you're in for a shock.

Muck emerged from their own little world to say
must be a new band between "<=400cc at £30" and ">401cc at £45"

so, an ever so slightly bored out VFR400?

My bike's [1] far cheaper to run than my car [2].

That is a bargain: mine was £45.

Just over a pound a mile in road tax, since it was registered.

    Top value.

Indeed, but it's never too late.

  8. Quick calculation suggests excluding depreciation[1] that the bike[2]
would cost £2800 for my current commute and the car[2] £1600. Most of
the difference being made up in tyres and shorter service intervals. I
allowed 2 tyres for the car but unless I am unlucky it's 1 a year.

[1] Depreciation on the bike is/was higher over the last years

  9. I reckon mine costs about the same (Pan Euro, 4.0 litre Range Rover).

two-stroke oil that's spewed from the exhausts.

Yer but, that's a big engined car. Why is the Mondeo so dear to run? Is it
    shite fuel consumption?

  13. I would guess on high servicing costs, huge depreciation and 10 quid a
mile for the embarrassment of being seen in it.

It may as well have been turbine powered by the amount of fuel it used. :)

I can't remember how much my IIA 2 1/4 used, but I can remember I used
to walk a lot more back then.
