    Stupidity is seldom fixable.
    Wooo!

A man with taste! (not as much taste as if you had picked up a
    loopframe, but enough...)

Harsh call - Stupid? Yes. Will he learn? I think so.

His breathalyser reading was 0.086 but his blood test came in under 0.08 -
not sure what that means legally but we'll find out.

We can hope :) THe wakeup might be enough, depends if he thinks "DUI
is stupid" or "Getting caught is stupid"....

Is .08 the limit where you are? I thought all states had been
    blackmailed into .05.

0.08 is a critical point in SA - 0.05 - .079 is a fine and loss of points
but no loss of license for a first offence. 0.08 and over is automatic and
immediate 6 months loss of license.

The kid made a bad decision due to inexperience. He had his bike stolen on
Friday night and went to a BBQ on Saturday afternoon. Took a taxi to the
party (right decision) and the police called him to say they'd located his
bike (about 400 m from his home) but he had to pick it up immediately. They
told him if it was stolen from where they'd located it, they didn't want to
know about it. So, he took a cab home and recovered the bike - the ignition
wiring was ripped out and he wheeled it back home. He thought he was OK so
jumped in the car and drove back to the party (wrong decision) but was
pulled up for a random check on the way.....

We live in different times from when I was a 20 year old (probably a good
    thing!).

Yes, Nev, they've been discussed before, but no one (IMHO) has pointed
    out the regulations before!

As far as effectiveness, though, one my leadwing riding mates in the US
was t-boned (bye bye GL1500) while riding in middle of group, wearing
conspicuity vest, with headlight modulator on, by a SMIDSY.

The breathalyser is just a preliminary reading. He will be charged
based on the result of his blood test.

Yep. Blood is taken, two tubes. One for analysis one for reference. The
individual has the right to have their tube tested by a NATA accredited lab,
    at their expense.

Welcome to the Norge riders. The dealer tried to talk me into red but I
    stuck to the silver.
7500 kms so far, and I love it.

Last week I stopped alongside a rusty old tradie van at a red light. He
looked at it and said, that's very nice..... beautiful...... beautiful.....
beautiful................ beautiful........ I was getting nervous by then
and glad the lights went green. :)
