Can somebody point me to the document that details, in BLACK and WHITE, the
roadworthy requirements specific to motorcycles in Victoria? After excessive
googling, all I have been able to locate is
    http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/vsi 26.pdf, which relates more
    to cars and trucks.

Specifically, I'd like to know the requirements for mirrors. Do you need
    two?

Go to a RWC tester and ask to look at the RWC list. AFAIR the same list is
used for both cars and bikes, with a small section of extra motorcycle
    specific stuff.

Rod, my bike came out with 2 mirrors and i got rwc with one,
as long as it is the right hand mirror you will be ok.
i had to take the bike to vicroads for check and rego and they said one
    mirror is fine.

Both mirrros should be made compulsory and retrofitted to vehicles
    manufactured without.
I took my gf's car for a RWC a while back with only one mirror, the car was
manufactured with only one. Passed not a problem. I fitted the LH mirror
    anyway afterwards.

I quizzed the mechanic and was told the same. Need only the RH side.

With the increasing number of bicycle lanes pathed and accidents in the
driveways, surely the authorities ( state, national ) must look at making
    them compulsory.

Whack one on anyway, mate. For 25 dollars ( new ) it's cheap insurance
againt being T-boned by a bicycle or another motorbike running up your near
    side.

Seriously that might actually DO something for motorcycle safety but it
WON'T raise revenue. Front number plates make much more sense! Might
nab an extra 100 bikers a year or so, at say $200 a pop that makes for
an extra 20g revenue in Bracksies retirmenet fund.

The fact that it will cost some estimated 14mill to implement seems lost
    to the authorities of course.
