You're comparing apples and oranges here. From the example you've
shown the guys at the back :-
    a) are not in a Ferrari
    b) have differing fuel loads
    c) have different tyre compounds

Also it's a longer lap than Fiorano and they only get one shot at it
    so are not driving 100%.

Stick any of the current crop of drivers in the Ferrari and let 'em
have 80 laps round Fiorano and they'd be closer than 6 seconds down.

  3. During the podium stuff put any driver that didn't make at least three
overtakes in a cage with a hungry lion.

If the race is dull the podium bit will be really interesting and vice
versa. Also you'd get many more oppotunities for fresh new driving
    talent in F1.

    Hard to see a drawback.

    How about three seconds down?

How about if we put them in the fridge for a bit?

How about we put them all in the one big transit so they all lap at the same
    pace?

No. One or two quick lads and a lot of other entrants.

The current set of rules seem to have given teams other than Ferrari a
chance to have a go, at some tracks^Wpit-stops, under some circumstances
but not consistently and it still needs a driver a cut above the rest to
    win.

This year Ferrari have produced an absolute dog of a car, at the same
time that Renault have made a good one and the red team have paid the
price. But effectively it is exactly the same as MotoGP where you have
two or three blokes who are demonstrably quicker than the rest no matter
what they fly and everybody else is scrabbling simply for a points
    finish.

It has turned into 4 races. Qually as you say and three stints where
the car who can go the longest without refuelling wins on aggregate.
Which is a tad less exiting than watching a bloke run round in second
place all day and overtake on the last bend to win with monotonous
    regularity but only a tad.

  11. I just go and do something else after it's become obvious there's not
going to be a first corner pileup. I haven't bothered watching a full GP
    for at least 2 years.

  13. True enough. The problem is, if you go back 5 or 6 years, F1 results
could have just as easily been determined by all the team bosses sitting
'round a table and saying "Right, who's got the biggest budget?" -- "Ok,
you win the championship", "Who's got the second biggest budget?"...
    etc.

All the changes they've brought in seem to have been made for good
reasons and with good intentions, but they've been made with all the
foresight and planning of a blind syphilitic donkey. F1 will remain shit
(for fans) for at least as long as Max Mosely calls the shots and
    probably longer.

I would cross-post this to one of the F1 groups, but I've had enough
rows for one week already, plus I'm tired and emotional after riding
back up the A286 from Chichester to London on bike with almost no
headlight (after trying to bump-start said bike in a comedy stylee for
20mins in a car park) because the charging system is fucked on the
STUPID PIECE OF CHEAP UNRELIABLE KOREAN CRAP that I foolishly bought. At
least it is (presumably) still under warranty at 10 months old. Grrrr!

I find his usual scream of "GOOOOOO!" at the start of the race as the
cars appear to trundle away from the line highly amusing in a "you
fucking pathetic twat" kind of way. Murray could at least claim to
    have BTSTGTT.

  18. Yup, before about this time last year I was never really "into" bike
racing. That's completely changed now though (I prefer road-races to the
likes of MotoGP and BSB though, not really sure why). There is so much
more skill involved compared with cars. Although there are still some
very decent car racing series outside of F1 too - the BTCC this year is
fantastic and the A1GP that's starting at Brands next month looks like
being well thought-out and a potential scorcher.
    It's one of these:
    http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/hyosung_aquila_125_2001.php

To be honest, it wasn't really that cheap, which just makes matters
worse. It does have an 8-valve DOHC V-twin at the same price as most of
the competitions single-cyl offerings though. I've been singing it's
praises ever since I bought it but now, 10 months and 2.5K miles on, the
honeymoon period is definitely over. It has rewarded my loving care,
maintenance, and constant polishing of shiny-bits by showing signs of
cosmetic rust already and breaking down at the single farthest point
from home that I've even taken it. I need it fixed by saturday too, so
it looks like I'm going to have to look at it myself. Could be
"interesting". Expect lots of "where the **** does *this* bit go?" posts
over the next couple of days!

I wanted to get more into doing my own maintenance, but I wasn't really
expecting my hand to be forced in quite this way with a 10 month old
    bike. Ho hum.

The reality is that I can't see Rossi ever being successful in F1. Even
if he eventually demonstrates the ability to be fast enough over a
single lap, he doesn't have the physique required for the high g forces
of F1 - so he wouldn't be able to maintain anything like a similar pace
over the course of a race. I doubt that a change in fitness regime would
    be able to change this.
