The exhaust on my 2001 1200 Bandit has rusted through at the point where the
link pipe fits into the collector pipe. I believe this is not uncommon and
am sure I have seen a mod, or repair kit, or something to enable this to be
fixed, I don't think it was a dream to save me £230 for a new set of pipes,
So, If any one knows of this kit thingy I would be grateful for any info.

    Thanks in anticipation.

I got my local welder to fix it with some stainless steel for about £30.
That was over 3 years ago, and it's still ok now.

You're correct - this is not uncommon. The fucking lunacy of
manufacturing a stainless exhaust with a bit of mild steel in the
middle of it makes me grind my teeth. Four years is a bit soon - most
seem to last six or seven, but they all go in the end.

Anyway - the solution. Either whip the exhaust off and take it to
your local welder to be fixed - or submit to probably the most popular
route and let Banditmania do it for you. I did hear some poor reports
of this repair a few years ago, but I believe that Quality Control is
    much better now.

    Have a look here:

http://www.banditmania.co.uk/ExhaustWork.htm and scroll down to the
seventh item listed. It looks quite fair, bearing in mind that it
comes with new heatshield and clamp, new header gaskets and eight
stainless bolts - but you may well find that the price needs postage
and VAT added. Give them a call and ask.

There's a pic of the repair at the bottom of this page:

The previous owner of my B12 had this repair carried out and when he
submitted it to a welder at work for his opinion, he declared it to be
good. It certainly looks fine to me. However, he told me that the
whole process took a week turnaround and cost a total of 108 quid -
but that is still less than half the cost of a new exhaust.

Pays yer money, takes yer chance ...

    Good luck.

They should be available on prescription.

It is fine, tyvm. Well sorted bike with the exception of an
unpleasant fuelling problem which hopefully will be sorted with the
assistance of a Dynot kit, a race can and D. Lawes Esq., now
    spannering independently in Snorbans.
