Saabs - 9-3 diesels in particular

    Coo. I thought they'd been shelved years ago in favour of electric
    units. I dunno, I don't keep up these days - as Hog said, spannering
    POS cars isn't much fun any more.

    When I worked for Park Lane the viscous fan couplings on those mid to late
    80's beemers were a good money spinner....

    At the other end of the spectrum BMW provided an alternative brake pad grade
    "Abrasive", which could extend the life of tram lined disks for another
    service interval. It was a great idea but AFAICT they are no longer
    available.

    These are/were both japanese 4x4s with longitudinal engines; I guess
    it makes more sense with that arrangement. Maybe there's a good reason
    for avoiding using electric fans on offroaders as well, though I can't
    think what that might be.
