In the March MCS&L Cathcart reckons this may end up with a Voxan motor:

Black Magic? Well for a start there is an official demo Black Magic in
the UK and one has actually been sold by Phantom Motorcycles.

    http://www.phantommotorcycles.co.uk/

Those in the VCF that own them rate them highly (but then they would say
    that wouldn't they?).

Being a post 2003 motor it has the larger throttle bodies than mine. It
is reckoned to be fairly easy to get them up to 120 BHP. Phantom are a
power commander centre and are confident that even more go can be
    released.

'Mig' raced one in the 2005 TT which unfortunately did not finish (best
practice lap 107 mph) , two other Voxans did, and he finished in three
races on a Cafe Racer (same motor) in 2004.

Not ridden one myself but did have a go on the demo Street Scrambler in
    December.

Very flexible with a wide power band (as standard). Even my early model
goes well. Did 98 through the finish at Shelsley last July even though I
ride round the last corner like an old woman (bike fastest finish speed
was a tuned GSXR 1200 at 108 and most of the others were just on the
    ton).

    They all do.

    *Sigh*
I don't doubt it for a minute and Power Commanders aren't the only way
    to release power.
Was that the motor he won on or trhe onme we were just talking about ;)
Well yeah and that's the thing.TheDS is said to have had (and have had)
as much power as the BSM[1]

How's that then? Diffrent motors or diffrent burb?
    That's what I like.
Woh, that's like nearly a ton above everyone else!

There is talk of an 'official' 130 Bhp racing kit that is aimed at
Charade 'racing' owners and I am sure the club bike to be raced in the
protwin series this year produces at least that.
OK same spec. motor basically certainly.
All the range use the same 100Bhp lump except the Scrambler (spoked
wheels) which is restricted to 85. The SS has just the same power as a
Black Magic, Cafe Racer or even Charade.

Very easy to ride. At a try out day at a circuit in France in 2004 I
talked to a brit ex-pat who had turned up to try one. He remarked how
much 'easier' it was to ride than a Ducati - though ultimately much
    slower naturally.
    <whooosh>

<> cast forth these pearls of wisdom

Bad form, but I just heard that the owner of the only other UK
registered Voxan that I know has to sell it for personal reasons:

"2002 [1] blue Roadster in absolutely mint condition, only 2,800 Kms,
'Evo' kit and expansion tank fitted Nov 05, Remus Titanium race cans
and Bagster comfort seat, LED rear light and indicators and all original
    lights, exhausts included."

[1] So a Gardette model, but it has had the kit evo.

Anyone interested can contact him via me.

Cool. I'd like a go on one at least and I saw the Street Scrambler in
the flesh on the day of writing. It looked gorgeous until I saw the BM.
I'd like a go one one, too. I suppose the CR/SS and BM all handle a bit
differently? I guess the susension parts are the same but the riding
    positions are totally different.
Better to finish a couple of seconds off the pace than not at all, my
    friend.

Unless of course you're one of those types that revels in the glory of
    injury...

    Where did you see it?
The cunning frame design allows (factory) adjustment of the head angle,
so the differences are not only cosmetic.

"The motor is set very low in the chassis, which comprises of two steel
tubular backbone sections, which have screw-in type housings at the
swingarm, and the steering head. Voxan's chassis design allows these
screw-in sections to be formed with small variations in the angle/size
of the frame mounts, so that a small change in the factory setting has a
discernible effect on the steering geometry, wheelbase, or overall
    weight bias of the bike."

The SS certainly felt slightly different to my Roadster in a way you
would expect from the wider higher bars set up.

Indeed. To put in a time, you have to go through the finish lights.
Having said that there is some dispute as to whether my biggest 'off',
hill climbing at Hartland Quay many years ago, resulted in the beam
being broken first by me or the bike. We parted company at the finish,
just after a fastish very bumpy blind right hander and it was blowing a
    gale.

    Sweet, that sounds nice.
So does that mean they use the same frame for different bikes or it's an
individual set-up for each one right from the off?
Which is why I want a go. I'd never even sat on, let alone ridden a R1
before I bought it and promptly hated the thing.
Don't be asking for a steward's enquiry then, I guess you're supposed to
be in the thing when it goes through.

[1] Technically, it's still in King's Road but only just.

I wonder if they are the 'London Dealer' Loic from French Bikes Imports
mentioned to me the other day. It was his French registered demo SS I
    had a go on.
Each model has its own swingarm and steering head settings based on the
same twin backbone design with slightly different screw-in bits. I have
a book all about the birth of Voxan (with a separate English translation
from the author) at the chateau. Sodemo [1], a French F1 engine
specialist was involved in the motor design.

Correct. I am pretty sure, however, that we went our separate ways
literally over the line. I hit the really bumpy bit of track on the exit
of the last bend and took off. The gale force wind helped me to land in
a direction somewhat at odds with that required. Huge tank slapper
resulted which left dents in the tank and turned the nails up on both my
thumbs (despite having suitable lock stops), before I dropped it. They
have shortened the course now as the (fast) big bikes were starting to
have difficulty stopping before running out on to the public road.

[1] Not an intriguing homage to 'The Story of O' AFAIK.

Ah! Well while I admit I never saw the plate, it was the sleek looking
bulletholes in the exhaust that first got my attention but only
glanceing over the engine fins and then along the chrome exhaust headers
leading towards the rather disappointing paggesnger seat[1]
OK, so a test ride really is in order.

I should do it more often.
A bit like a Top Gear test track then ;o)
On your what? My nails are rivetted!

Go for it. I first rode a Voxan at the Issoire factory. It was one of
the employees bikes who was apparently going on holiday on it the next
day. What struck me was that not only did it seem fairly light when
getting aboard, it also didn't have the weight of a 'litre bike' when
under way (bear in mind my only previous experience of >= 900 cc being
    the R90/6).
Do I detect that sir is "in his cups" again?

I am a bit mellow myself after a goodly share of a bottle of "Onion
sSn". I just went out to lock the garage door and found myself gazing up
at 'Orion' and 'Ursa Major' for longer than is healthy for an incipient
    bronchitic.

I'll give it a go then. Chances are it'll only be for half an hour or so
but what better way to test slow speed manuverability than the streets
    of Larhndarn.
Heh, not exactly but something along those lines.
Star gazing is cool but I like to wear a wooly hat if there's any chance
    my head could get cold.
