So; hearing at my back time's winged chariot hurrying near, I put
aside my Guzzis & Laverdas. I did the decent thing & scored me an
LT1100, from which, in a fit of responsibility, I removed the tape
player (because we all know what happens when the music is turned up
    loud).

All well & good, until, this after-noon, I went to the public library
(ostensibly to renew the kids' talking books). Sans volition, I
returned home with the CD of Bat Out Of Hell (re-mastered).

Now I'm playing it *far* too loud & grinning.

Quick question; does anyone know how to bodge a generic CD player onto
    a mid-90s K1100LT?

AFAIK they need a special shallow head unit - the face plate cut-out is
standard DIN size, but the hole isn't deep enough to take most readily
    available car units.

  4. BMW sells specially enlarged bulgey covers for the stash boxes in the
fairing, to allow a unit to fit inside. The SE version of the K1100LT,
which has a radio as standard, is fitted with one.

As Tog said BMW do a convex lid and you could use a few of the Blaupunkt car
units. I've seen a nice Alpine unit fitted too. But these days I would go
    for a DAB/MP3 unit.

I've always rather fancied a Beemer fairing with one of those combined
ICE/Satnav Alpine or similar units, fitted front centre, with the pop out
sat-nav screen coming up a bit like a HUD. But it would ping Champ's gaydar
    a little too loudly.

CD player? Bat out of Hell?

Get with the times, daddio. Spotify, mobile phone, line in. Problem
    solved.

are you actually being paid to keep dropping Spotify[1] into threads?

[1] nice system, stupid fucking name.

Unless you want to listen to AC/DC, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, The Parlotones
    etc etc.

MP3 player plugged in yer ears is the way to go.

Would appear to be the concensus.

    Thanks, all.

No, I just think it rocks a fat one and people ought to know about it.

Spotify can also play MP3s stored on the phone. Best of both worlds.

I might agree if they made the free version available for phones, or if
I had a commute. It certainly wouldn't be worth 10 quid/month to me at
    the moment though.

In its most basic form, it gives you an app on your PC that gives you
free streaming of thousands of tracks, with the odd advert here &
there. Here's a grid showing what the different free/pay options give
    you - https://www.spotify.com/uk/get-spotify/premium/

What about new stuff? presumably that still costs you the going rate..
    let's say a tenner a CD.

I do. Because I often listen to new music, not just my existing back-
catalogue, and a tenner a month is substantially cheaper than buying
albums all the time and lets me freely sample new stuff. If your tastes
are firmly stuck in the 70s then YMMV.

The point is it's the easiest way to listen to all sorts of other stuff
you haven't got, which you can obviously then download/buy if you want
    to.
He does. It's pretty good value if you don't want to 'steal' music, but
Spotify Free is even better value if you don't need the bells &
    whistles.

Sod that, just get a small chamber orchestra fitted into your sidecar.
It'd be a tight squeeze and the wind section might have to settle for
    sitting on a trailer, but...

I've done various gigs on flatbed artic trailers - might get a bit hairy
at motorway speeds though, it's difficult to keep playing when the music
    has blown away.

I rarely ever listen to anything from my mp3 collection (the majority of
which is ripped from CDs I bought over the years).

    Familiarity really does breed contempt.

10 quid/month is **** all. I spend well over 10 quid a *day* on stuff
    I can't even remember the next day[1]

[1] though of course this could be early-onset AD rather than a
    laissez-faire fiscal policy.
