I was at a town hall meeting tonight and the subject came up about the
motorway not too far from where I live, no longer being lit.

Apparently a gang of Gypsies nicked all the cabling to the lights on a
fairly large section of the motorway and on the slip road going into
town about a year or so ago.

The prefecture has decided against repairing the lighting system
because it's been seen that the number of accidents has been reduced at
night as everyone slows down in the dark.

It's the first time I've seen Gypsies thinking of our safety...

The internet would be a safer place if BT stopped replacing the phone wires
in certain parts of the Home Counties...

    Ha!

I don't know why we don't set up vast reels of copper for the pikey scum
to nick. Suitably boobytrapped. T'would be a much better place without
    the fucking scum.

  5. Signal cable is a favourite (copper), allegedly a lot of the WCML signal
problems are down to them introducing wireless signalling to stop this
    very problem.

I remember when I worked for Lucent in ZA. We installed a wireless
telephone system (no, not mobile phones) 'cos the copper cable was
    always being nicked.

This, however, is truly a tragedy:

I mean, "The factory unit will remain cordoned off until at least Friday
to enable forensic investigators and Health and Safety Executive
officials to examine the area, a spokesman for West Midlands Police
    said."

What a complete waste of money!

Gypsy-related loss of cable was a problem at Filton a number of years ago,
allegedly resolved by doing the ground-running of F-111s on the part of the
airfield next to the Gypsy encampment.

There's an Establishment not far from here, set back from the road and
screened by trees. Comms connections follow the road, apparently, then
run up to the site via a series of access chambers. A couple of likely
lads tried their luck, ignorant of a few things: a) the fibre-optic link
wouldn't be much use to them, b) the surveillance, c) the speed of
    response.

It took them a while to get the second lid up, having given in on the
first (non-standard hatches, unsurprisingly) and of course as the lid
lifted, an alarm sounded in the control room. Even hardened pikey types
hold their hands up when outnumbered 4 - 1, apparently. Especially when
the H&K count is eight-nil against them, the large men in black aren't
even out of breath and it has been less than a couple of minutes since
    the lid went up.
