    views on Sargent seats please

I have the chance to buy a used seat for my bike. Just the rider's section.

Value? New they seem to be a whopping £400. Ebay completed auctions suggest
    £150-200

They're very well loved by the yankie Tiger crowd, but made to measure
to a certain extent aiui, so might not work for you if originally made
    for someone much bigger/smaller/heavier/lighter.

I met the owner at Cardiff Motorrad on Friday. I was in the car, getting a
tyre fitted on the bike's rear wheel, otherwise I would've popped along to
the chap's house to try it out.

The chap is a similar height to me and probably weighs a stone less.

Anyway, said owner will drop the seat off at CM so I can try it out
    tomorrow, before committing to buy.

Does £150 sound right to you? My 9 year old seat will need a refurb in the
not too distant future, which would cost about the same at Digger in
Newport, if UKGSer is to be believed.

I've never heard a bad thing about them, but I've only ever heard of anyone
putting them on cruiser types. If it's half as good as the Bagster/Seatster
thing I got for the Zed, it'll be worth that kind of money.

The Bagster/Seatster seat (very similar to the Sargent) retailed at 250 quid
plus your own seat, although I managed to get one off eBay for 200 and no
"exchange seat" so I've still got the original. 150 sounds like a pretty
damned good price from where I'm sitting (groan)

I have a stock, off-the-shelf Sargent seat for my 650 Vstrom.
I received it a few weeks ago and it's very comfortable.

They're actually more often on Sportbikes.
Their associate company, Mustang, makes the Cruiser seats.

Sounds good to me, & you should be able to get your money back no
problem on Ebay if it doesn't suit you.

    @mid.individual.net:

I bought it. You'd think on something that costs £400 new that they would
make the metal parts from something that does not corrode. Nope, mild
    steel.

Feels very odd. With the gel inserts it is a lot shallower than the
original but you don't sink into it. Feels quite firm and slightly wider as
it does not squish at the edges as much as the original.

Fitted in the low position it is too low for my liking. Too much knee bend.
So it will have to be used in the high position all of the time, which
should be okay as I can flat foot both sides on level ground.

Comfort? Difficult to judge on the short test ride & 35 mile journey home.
Apparently they can take a few hundred miles to mould themselves to a new
    arse.

Same as a Corbin then - it really does take a few hundred miles.

Interesting, yours must be a custom order.
Mine has no Gel inserts, and no Hi Lo adjustability, bit I'm sure it's
    different depending on Bike Model!
I also sit abouit an Inch higher than on the stock Vstrom seat.

    :

It might be gel, it might be very firm foam. It's a stock seat like this,
http://www.sargentcycle.com/bmwwsrgs.htm only yellow piping. So "super cell
atomic foam", whatever that might be.

The dual position is a standard R-GS feature. Sargent use the same hardware
to allow the 2 positions to be used.
