It's even more of a challenge when you're over in mainland Europe.

is this a positive earth thing, or does some property of the dynamo
    interfere with the technology?

I did ask him but he didn't seem to have any real reason, he just said I
had to have an alternator and the 12 year old shit was very patronising
    about it too.

For the avoidance of doubt - there is no reason a fucking sat nav won't
work in that car. Foe empirical evidence, I've had a Garmin in it and it
    was still positive earth then.

When I went in and asked them to price match Amazon on Monday the
teena^H^H^H^manager told me that no retailer could price match the internet
because "anyone can throw together a web page and claim it's cheaper". I
was waving a print out of Amazon.co.uk in front of him complete with URL and
invited him to go look. He claimed not to have access, which I didn't
believe, so I pulled out my E71 and started to load the page. He just walked
    away!

And **** me if Amazon haven't just dropped the price another £12 to £165
    delivered

and it is direct supply, I won't use the "Partners" any more.

Fair point, I pretty much always check the time and make an effort to
    beat it - doesn't everyone?

Well I do to, much to the chagrin of my mrs, but as you say, with the
Garmin you really do have to get a move on. On unclassified roads
    though, it's impossible[1].

    Nothing's impossible.

I hate the Garmin because it lies so much but it does make the drive
    more entertaining.

IIRC it was about 100-odd miles and something like 2hr5. I remember
thinking that it was pretty close to our actual time.
