Scooter Front Brakes

I'm curious what the typical life expectancy of brake pads
    on a scooter should be?

I have a Hyosung scooter that I bought new less than a year
ago, and it now has 2700km on it. Yesterday I went out on
it, and it started a grinding noise from the front wheel.
Got home and had a look, and the front brake pads are mostly
worn out to the metal with only a sliver of pad left. (I
hadn't noticed any decrease in braking performance though).

I do a periodic check on brake fluid, but I hadn't bothered
to check the pads before - on my car they are something that
lasts 150,000km, and even in the service log for the bike
they are listed as "inspect" every 4,000km.

Is it normal for brake pads to last such a short time, or
does this sound like they were faulty and as such should be
    replaced under warranty?

No it isn't, but good luck on getting any consumable replaced under
    warranty!

OEM brakepads can be definitely strange, the ones on my Norge only
lasted 20,000 but on other Norges are hardly worn at 30,000 and I
don't think that's entirely down to braking habits... (As the ones on
the hack Guzzi lasted far far longer on the same kind of commute)

The replacements are doing fine and show no wear at 10k

I wore through a set a pads AND the front disc by the 5000 service on my
    VX800.
I pretty much killed another set soon after before I junked the
sintered-metal OEM pads and switched to ordinary fibre.
