    Not on the original tv show it wasn't (I've not heard the radio play),

    I always assumed that was just accent and that it was spelled babel
    pronounced babble though...

    I'm almost sure that on the radio play it was pronounced ba-bel
    though... and doesn't the radio play predate the tv show? I don't have
    my cassette of the radio show anymore so I can't check...

    *blank look*

    Not saying you are wrong... it could be my failing memory :)

    Yes the radio play came first, then the book, then the TV show. However
    as per above, the UK pronounciation is baybel so it was more likely to
    have been said that way - I don't *know* however as I've not heard the
    radio play (as I said in the original post).
    <shrug> "Tower of Babel" is the reference which he is making with the
    babelfish and I've only ever heard it pronounced as baybel as well -
    obviously the word babble is derived from that thouhg.
