I like scooters. Good fun .Can carry all manners of stuff on the floor
but what in the world is the idea of these gigantasaurus 650 things
built like overgrown stepthroughs.could someone explain the attraction
when you can get a propper bike. What do they have that makes people buy
    them?

  2. Lowish centre of gravity. Not having to throw a leg over a seat. No
clutch. No gears. Plenty of storage. Good stability compared to the 50cc
versions. And still go like the clappers on the open road and pull 500
    to 800 km days.

A mate of mine has a Burgman 650. He's ridden all his life. He's 70. The
beemer was getting a bit much and he was having trouble getting his leg
over. (Don't know - didn't ask) The Burgman has allowed him to keep
riding. I had a ride and they are brilliant. In fully auto mode, they
seem to gather speed very quickly. Very comfortable, with heaps of
storage, a screen and the ability to move your feet around on a longer
trip. I'd have one in a flash. Paul.

    I've riden a Burgman 650 and 250 several times. The 650 cruises at 140
before you realise you're going that quick. The 250 easily sits on 120 2-up.
The underseat storage will hold a helmet, jacket and gloves. Not having to
carry your gear around is a major bonus when you're going down to the shops

Although if you are putting your kit there, you better have a topbox
    for the shopping....

Dunno what the Mighty Scooter would do two up. The small wheels make
it feel a bit wiggly at over 120kmh, I tend to stick to the 110 limit
    because of that.

I rode the Aprilia 500 which is shaped like a Vespa rather than a
tourer. I thnk for a large bod who lived where they were commuting on
high speed roads or who wanted to do the odd long trip but was also
doing a lot of innercity work it would be excellent.

(large as in "this can manage the size and weight", I could ride it
with ease but it was a bit high in the seat, and wider than my highish
    in the seat scooter.)

Wouldn't be as good a tourer as the other maxi scooters though. Much
    more the urban/outer suburban bike.

Errrm when you get back with the shopping you take the kit out from
under the seat, put the shopping under the seat and put the kit on....

I've found the boys in blue take a dim view of people riding around
    without their helmets, YMMV.

    JL
(although I'd agree that a topbox is a must on a scooter)

Err, when you come out of the shops you put your kit on and the groceries
under the seat. I'll bet you realised that about two seconds after you
    pressed send. :)

No greenslip in WA. Difference in cost of rego and TPI for 250 and 650 is
around $15.00. Of course, the 650 is way more expensive to buy.

If you fit a carton of Tooheys Old stubbies in there then its all good.

What timing. I've just got a GTS250 to evaluate for the weekend. Whilst
it's a great lil' jigger, I'd soon tire of it and get the Nexus 500 or the
X8 250 because there's more storage and in the case of the 500, more power.
The speed is great on the GTS until you get over 80 where the acceleration
is lacking. It'll still see 140 on the clock though.

The X8 is tempting though as it's cheap to rego and insure.

No greenslip in WA. Difference in cost of rego and TPI for 250 and 650 is
nsw your probably having about 3-400 difference in green slip cost!

rego is about 92 bucks across the board, not sure for 50cc's any comments?

  16. Why? Once you're back from doing the shopping, the kit comes out the
shopping goes in the kit goes on and the person scoots off.

Having said that, Carol just got a top box put on the Piaggio.
Apparently a girl can never have enough room.

_I_ do all my shopping in one place, but Carol likes to spread her
    dollars around.

men hunt, 1 giant mamoth does us.
women gather, they search far and wide and get as many littl ethings as they
    can get...

wana strap a mamoth to your rack, or store all the berries under the seat
    :)
