Just my experience: -----Original Message----- From: datamail [mailto:] Sent: 11 August 2008 11:07 To: Tech Subject: Slipperblock Technical Query I have just come back from a 3500 mile tour across Europe (Switzerland, Italy, France) but my slipperblock which I fitted beforehand just lasted until, at the most, Calais on the way down. I noticed it was gone when I stopped for fuel just after Calais and I had to block up the remains of the pipe with a screw. For the rest of the trip I had to manually oil the chain which wasn't ideal. The bike is a Suzuki DL1000 and I had fitted the Slipperblock as per instructions in the middle of the lower chain run nowhere near the rear sprocket it was securely fastened via the pipe to the Galvanised strip which the pipe had been threaded through as per instructions.. The strip was attached to one of the bolts on the chain slipper and the pipe was not outwith the centre line of the chain and the slipperblock did not in any way foul the rear sprocket on suspension compression. I had tested it for a few days beforehand on short runs and it seemed fine and I had adjusted the flow rate suitably. Yet it had gone by the time I reached Calais and I was left with just a stub of pipe (see attached pic). What happened? I see via your website this Slipperblock model has now been discontinued and a new version is being developed, does this imply you have had instances of this happening to other customers? I await your reply, John Munro Hello John, I'm sorry to hear of your experience with your Slipperblock. Your description (and photo) of the installation doesn't suggest any incompetence on your part, so. It's hard to explain what went wrong although another DL1000 owner did contact us who'd lost his slipperblock but we think this was due the conditions it was used in (sand in Morocco). With the first production run of Slipperblock kits currently sold out, we don't have a replacement to offer you but we'll be more than happy to supply you any parts you might to convert your installation to a conventional set up, until a MKII version is released in a few months. Which, although not the best, seems to have reached a more than amicable conclusion. A simple "I lost my slipperblock, and Scottoiler have offered to fix me up temporarily with a standard tube setup AND supply me with a new updated version FOC when they become available" would have been more than enough. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
I know it's very unusual for that to happen on UKRM, but I didn't feel the post was tedious, more like misleading. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
