In a vain attempt to reduce the need to clean my chain, I had a
Scottoiler fitted when I replaced the chain and sprockets about 2k miles
    ago.

However, I've noticed that the outside of the chain is looking nice and
shiny....Great! However, the inside of the chain is looking less than
pristine, in fact it's honestly looking a little rusty.

Should I be trying to relocate the pipe or have the dealer take a look
    at it?

    Madam needs a dual injector.

Suze emerged from their own little world to say
I found it was best to set the nozzle to apply the oil to the rear sprocket
just above the lowest contact point with the chain. The oil seemed to get
    evenly distributed.

Of course, this was before the days of those new fangled double nozzles
when I did not have the ultimate solution to rusty chains.

Madam needs Speedyspic Engineering Services to take a look at it first,
and then if needed he can fit a Dual Injector.

However, I've noticed that the outside of the chain is looking nice and
Where do you keep you bike? if like me its in a damp garage the chain will
    go rusty very quickly.

I suggest getting some rubber gloves a shallow plastic bowl a wire brush and
some paraffin and remove the rear wheel dunk the chain in the paraffin and
scrub with said brush. In no time it will be like new and ready for some
more scottoil. Before you put it back spray chain wax in the inside of the
    chain for added protection.

    Hope this helps

I was going to say "Wot 'e said", however, my -12R only had a single
feed for its Snottoiler and that had a much heavier chain than Suze's
CBR6. Never ever had no bovver, guvnor.

  8. It should be dripping onto the inner side of the chainrun, at the rear
sprocket, so it naturally works its way through the chain.

Has the dealer (or one of the minkeys) fitted the pipe above the chain?

It took me forever to get Gareth's right but I wa tempted to fit a dual
    pipe.

Thanks. If you're in my work area and have a few spare minutes, might
you be willing to have a look?

Unless I'm much mistaken, the Scottoiler is only designed lubricate the
middle of the chain (the contact area) not the plates.

I talked to Scottoiler at the NEC show and they said that the only
reason they did they did the dual injector was because the opposition
did and a number of people asked for one; but in truth the oil spreads
without it so there's no real reason to have one.

I *suspect* that you have the injector positioned so that it is lubing
the outside of the outer plate. Might be worth re-angleing to ensure
it's getting on the rollers. If you are worried about the plates looking
dry, give them a rub down occasionally with an oily rag (or a spray of
chain lube), but the critical thing is to get the Scottoil onto the
    rollers.

I only had a single on the SV, but that lost it's nozzles occasionally.
I had mine so that it dripped oil onto/very close to the sprocket,
which then ran down into the chain. This distributed the oil quite
nicely, but meant that if you didn't get it just right any time the
bike moved backwards would see the nozzle get ripped out.

I asked for a new one, scottoiler sent a few, so I cut the next one
down a bit and it worked a charm.

Thanks for the advice, but removing the rear wheel is a little beyond my
    tool-kit right now.

In the past I've certainly spent time with wire and brush on the chain
but to be perfectly honest, I fitted a scottoiler so I wouldn't have to
    do that again.

Getting the bike on the abba stand is in tself a bit of an adventure!

Chain was fitted by a renowned dealer, but it's on the outer edge of the
    chain?

Do you think I should take it back for the dual pipe then?

Thanks Gyp. That's what I read in their manual, but I wasn't convinced.
However, I'll try to re-angle the pipe tomorrow.

I fitted the dual injector on mine and it keeps the chain clean and rust
    free all over..

  20. There you go then.
The pipe should terminate just above the inner side. All that's
happening with yours is the oil is hitting the outer side and just being
    flung off.

    Definitely a minkey.
