    I've still got a glovebox full of tapes. You know they're finished as
    you can hear the arm returning to it's rest when the record ends.

    Bad form etc.:

    One thing that has just occured to me: if it was an MP3 disc then
    maybe it could correct over a bigger hole: the CD-ROM data has a
    second layer of error correction (similar algorithm) that might spread
    over a greater distance. However, any glitch that couldn't be
    corrected would be relatively catastrophic: you can't interpolate MP3
    or WMA data like you can CDA data.

    Also, if it was spinning at > x1 speed then there would be less time
    for the focus & tracking servos to get thrown. We had to run at x1
    (well, up to about x1.5 if we were running ESP on CDA) because that's
    all the mechs were rated for: some not even that much.
