    The sooner the last bastions of the imperial system are gone the better
    imo. Anyway, it will add another 60% on the top end!

    SNIP!

    30kph = 18.75mph
    40kph = 25.00mph
    50kph = 31.25mph
    60kph = 37.5mph
    70kph = 43.75mph
    80kph = 50.0mph
    90kph = 56.25mph
    100kph = 62.5mph
    110kph = 68.75mph

    So that is 9 steps from approx 20mph to approx 70mph instead of the 6 steps
    from 20 to 70 (20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70)

    Wasn't there a fair amount of rounding down and dropping limits though?

    Don't be an arse; a series of limit signs displaying 10kph, 20kph,
    30kph, 40kph provide finer granularity than 10mph, 20mph,30mph etc.
    it's for the sake of European integration. And modernisation. Imperial
    measurement shoul d have been ditched at the same time as LSD currency.

    But wasn't that one of the things the Romans did for us? S'not our
    fault if the rest of their Empire decided to fix something that wasn't
    broken.

    He is quite right though and a change is easy enough. Problem will be
    the minority interest pressure groups using it as an excuse to drop all
    limits. As said in another thread, there are influential hard working
    fuckwits who would like to see all urban areas dropped to a blanket
    20mph with a motorway maximum of 60. All A and B rural roads would be
    30-50.

    it's for the sake of European integration.

    European integration? Like the raging success of the single currency? Like
    the previous raging success of the exchange rate mechanism which set the UK
    economy back 10 years? Source of the 100bhp limit threats dating back god
    knows how many years now? (Who else remembers good old Martin Bangemann?!)

    I hazard a guess that a fair proportion of people wouldn't be too happy with
    that sort of integration!

    Why are you comparing monetary policies and a vehicle policy that never
    affected the UK with a standardisation of a unit of measuring? Are you
    the sort of reactionary **** who insists on being able to buy loose
    fresh fruit and vegetables by the lb?
    It didn't seem to be a problem in the ROI.

    Why are you comparing monetary policies and a vehicle policy that never
    The source of legislation was from the same place hence the comparison. (And
    after all, it was you that mentioned integration)

    No I am not a reactionary ****.

    Yes it would be nice for people to have the choice to buy fresh fruit &
    vegetables by whatever measures they feel most comfortable with.
