no it isn't, you thick twat. If you'd read the article, you'd see the
call to move to kph signs is from the /UK/ Metric Assocation - not from
    any European entity.
everyone else in Europe" rather than a "The EU are telling the UK what
to do and we should go along with it meakly like sheep".
So if I started a campaign to demand that Tesco let me buy fresh
produce by the fother, cart-load or wain, you'd be in total agreement
that this was a reasonable demand?

<fx: this time with subtitles for the hard-of-thinking>

I was alluding to the fact that wanting to use archaic units of
measurement is a sign of mental laziness.

  3. Swings and roundabouts.

    The old 30mph became 31mph (50kph)
    The old 60mph became 63mph (100kph)
    The old 70mph became [1]

The many small backroads were reduced from 60mph to 50mph (80kph).
The large and small trunks were upped to 100kph.

[1] I'll have to look it up, 'cos I'm so rarely on a motorway these
    days.

So if I started a campaign to demand that Tesco let me buy fresh
If you can get a significant number of people together that agree with you
    why the hell not?

Personally I wouldn't sign up to it but more power to you for trying.)

the "modern metric system" was ratified in the 1960s, and the word
"modern" can, by definition, not be called "archaic".

the "modern metric system" was ratified in the 1960s, and the word
    Archaic/modern - who cares?

Freedom of choice - that's a different matter.

When it comes to infrastructure, freedom of choice is not a good idea.
Like economics, it is best left up to learned experts.

But you still get more steps in kph if single unit steps were being used so
you could get even finer "tuning"

That's dead right, cos 10% of mph is *not* the same as 10% of kph. We
all know that and the bastard politicians will have even more speed
    cameras up.

I had a rotating drum speedo in the first BX. Not that I actually pay any
attention to what speed I'm doing anyway.

What the EU invented metric units?

I never said or implied that.

All I was getting at was the fact that lots of silly un-necessary
legislation eminates from the EU. What never surprises me is the almost
religious fervour people make the pro-EU stance with and often not backing
it up with a logically constructed argument. Again - why change just to
change something? Why not have a decent reason to change something?

Incidentally - The UK Metric Association receives funding from the EU.)

Are you seriously suggesting that there are no good reasons in
favour of using the metric system?
