Ohhhhh no. Not me. Not bloody likely.

Rusty can argue back if he likes, but I've better things to do
than debate metrication [1]. I just twitched at the idea that
it's done for 'no good reason'.

[1] Including- in a few minutes- go and try to start my bike for
    the first time this year.

  4. Heh. Don't know if it's legal, but all prices here (in Spain) are also
stated in pesetas. Even my bank statements have the equivalent balance
etc. in pesetas (based on 166/euro).

  5. "Change for the sake of change" versus "What we're used to". Ok for the
yunguns, but a bit of a pain for the oldies.

I'm getting used to it now that I'm in Europe. Even though,
incidentally, the units of measurement here used to be the same as in
YUK. Milla = mile. Pulgada = inch. Yard = yarda. Foot = pie.

All jolly interesting stuff, donthcha know.

  7. It seems I was a year out:

"1971: D Day delivers new UK currency
The British Government has launched a new decimal currency across the
    country.

The familiar pound (£), shilling (s) and pence (d) coins are to be
phased out over the next 18 months in favour of a system dividing the
pound into units of ten, including half, one, two, five, ten and 50
    pence denominations. "

    and

"D-Day was February 15th 1971. On that day the United Kingdom changed
from the centuries old tradition of using 12 pence to the shilling and
20 shillings to the pound to a new decimal 100 new pence to the pound."

Coo, it doesn't seem like 35 years ago that I had to get my head around
a new currency. Fortunately I didn't really understand the old one at
    the time.
