selling a bike

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Insanely Sensible, Mar 3, 2005.

  1. I have a GPZ500 I've been trying to sell for a while, and I think it will be
better to wait till the weather is better.
The problem I have is the MOT has now expired. Would it be better to get it
MOTd before, or will it make no difference?

Given your name, that is an insanely stupid question. How can it *not*
be better to advertise a bike for sale with a new MoT?

When it's £100 and brought to you in the back of a gas powered Volvo.

  5. Maybe it was a bit of a blonde question, but does it really make that much
difference to the selling price, if anything?

  7. It does.
    In a way.
All I need to do now is find a willing bod to take it to the MOT station.

    Insanely Sensible says...
MOTd bikes always sell for more money. Any decent dealer will pick it up
from you and deliver if you haven't got licence/insurance for it.

It certainly can do as no MoT gives a prospective buyer a great
haggling point. But the important thing is the difference it makes to
    the sellability.

Those in the know realise that an MoT doesn't really mean anything,
much like a full service history. But most people see it as a guarantee
of mechanical soundness, especially if it's a new MoT.

It's more the other way round, IMHO. "No MOT? Why not? What did it fail
on that they don't want to tell me about?".
